25 Creedmoor vs 22 Creedmoor

According to the data Hornady released on their barrel lifespans, 6mm creed is ~1100-1200 rounds per barrel before accuracy and velocity issues start creeping in; wouldn’t 22 creedmoor be even worse?

I have had the 25 for a couple of years now. It may be the perfect diameter for that case, not underbore, not slow ( some feel the 6 5 is slow) , i have a one in 8 .75 twist it does stabilize the heavy berger but i haven’t messed with the hornady or sierra yet.
Mine loves the 101lrx over a charge of staball match with most any primer. I have small and lrp cases from Peterson and alpha, and have necked 6 5 brass down with out doing anything except run it through the die.
I every creed except the 22. I love the 6mm but barrel life is going to suffer. The 25 pushed the 133s over 3k but 2900 is where I’m going to try and hang out.
But as well as the lrxs shoot that’s going to be my hunting projectile. I have pushed 75(?) To 100 grain bullets up to 3300.

Done any hunting with it yet?

It’s just a normal 6.5 creedmoor case necked down to 25.

Not yet. I’ve only had elk tags. But my gun smith has hunted elk with a 250 ai for years with 80 gr ttsx out to 400 yards so I’ve been tempted.
I should use it for yotes.
The 250ai was my original intention but my smith talked me into the creed due to cost/ availability of primers at the time.

Cool.

You should get your smith to go on one of these podcasts about proper caliber and bullet for large game.

He’s splitting the difference between the small caliber with explosive bullet and the large caliber with deep penetration bullet camps. He’s created the small caliber with deep penetration camp.

He’s an interesting guy, he’s 84 i think maybe 85 now
He’s been wildcatting along time. 7mm mauser down to 6.5 is omw He’s done for decades, 6mm x284, He’s built alot of bench rest rifles for alot of competitive shooters, but he also hunts.
He has file cabinets full of loads and targets a literal bank of info. He’s forgot more about all of this than what I’ll ever do or know that’s for sure

So not an overbore blazer! but a solid and respectable round

I have been fascinated by the 25 caliber for awhile especially as a hunting cartridge. Small enough for coyotes, and varmint and with modern projectile design certainly capable ( in the right hand of course)
Of large game and it’s now becoming very popular with the competitive shooters as well. I would add in not sure if something like a 25arc would do well due to bullet length on the heavies but who knows?
If i had to pick one caliber the 25 would be on the short list.

The 25 caliber certainly has a lot of history and Nostalgia behind it. Lot of good stories in the magazines that I read when I was growing up as a kid.

A 25-06 was one of the first rifles I got when I was younger. Had some good success killing Whitetail with it. I don’t use it as much lately because it’s a somewhat heavier and longer firearm and I tend to gravitate more towards the short and lightweight nowadays.

The 257 Roberts always intrigued me sometimes just by the name itself. Very similar to the 404 Jeffrey and the 221 Fireball. Again lots of good stories, and American classic. I ended up picking up a couple of them right before covid hit. I’m taking them hunting but haven’t had an animal come out to shoot with either of them yet. They’re an absolute Joy at the range.

A few years ago my wife, who knows obviously that I’m an avid Hunter but doesn’t know much about hunting or shooting herself, went out to a local yard sale or estate sale in the middle of nowhere. When she got back she told me she had found this neat little leather book that would look cool in our living room and it just happened to be on deer hunting. I picked it up and opened it up and lo and behold on the title page, I saw that the author was Major Ned Roberts. What a find!

25-06 was my first center fire rifle for shooting ground hogs. Rifle hunting not permitted in Ohio for deer. I am intrigued by the 25 creedmore and want to build one as my first custom build.
