I don’t know how or who’d you even have to talk to about this, but the science behind what makes a cartridge inherently accurate over other cartridges. The 6 Dasher does not make sense to me. It does not have the best ballistics, or MV, or wind deflection, or whatever defining characteristic plug you want to use, but it somehow is just money for accuracy. What does it do differently? Why are some cartridges so much easier to load for or tune? I mean the 6 Dasher is still a wildcat…just crazy to think about.
Predator hunting, e.g., coyotes–I know you had mentioned in a past video you had some trouble with this and haven’t been as successful as you’d like. But it’s really quite different than deer, elk, etc. What have you learned in your pursuit of coyotes compared to other species? Additional/different setup or gear required? Predator lights or specialized night optics help? Importance of precision vs. a “max point blank range” configuration, etc.
Also, small game hunting. Rabbits, opossums, squirrel camp…fun times to be had by all.
If you deer hunt in Iowa or several other northern states that are shotgun slug or straight wall cartridges you should look into Bear Creek Ballistics and their offerings. They have really pushed the envelope to exceptional levels in straight wall cartridges, one example is the 450 Bushmaster 200 gr HV at 2750fps. I have used their 240gr HV for the last couple of years and get 2487fps out of a Ruger American Gen II with a 20” barrel. They are making a 45-70 that looks awesome, quite a few single shots rifles available but no one is making a bolt gun unless you go complete custom and that is at a significant cost. They also make the components available to load your own which I do for the 240gr round. The new 200gr HV gives you 30-06 level performance and excellent range for those big white tails.
I post something before seeing this . Man I would love a woman’s perspective on how they like shooting , what stuff fits them. Im trying to show my wife , or have her interested on shooting. For safety reason and also to increase our chances when we are out on the land hunting. she is a machine when comes the times two butcher an animal but she doesn’t feel confident shooting. I cost us a caribou 2 years ago. anyway any input would be welcome
I currently use a BCA in 350 Legend, and it has done very well. I am thinking about building a bolt gun in 358 win or 35 Whelen.
FYI, Bear creek Arsenal is a different company than Bear creek ballistics. BCB makes ammo, brakes and builds custom straight wall rifles.
