Getting Old but Itch for "New" Caliber

I don’t know… but w/the $75 rebates on the Tikka’s and the new Back Fire chassis, I had a new 22” barrel 7mm-08 Tikka T3X lite stainless threaded jump in my cart at $728, final price after rebate $653. I guess thank you WikiArms for always searching out good deals even though my bank acct doesn’t always agree..,

Personally, I like these newfangled “fad” cartridges. 6.5 CM, 7mm PRC, 300 PRC… they do what their four bears did but better. It’s like saying a ‘56 T-bird is categorically better than a ‘26 Honda Accord. Sure, the former is a Classic, but by every measure the latter is faster, more agile, more efficient, more comfortable, and other than impressing your friends and the ladies, more capable in every way.

Ben - where do you go for your elk hunts with that 45-70? I have a Henry 45-70 and have only shot boars in CA with it.

Unit 26 in Colorado, on King Mt.

Nice! Public or private? A friend has a cousin who hunts mule deer and elk near Meeker. We’re going to look into that area for next season. Thoughts?

Why do post have to be 10 characters?

What’s the feeling on the Ruger Hawkeye line? All I ever hear about anymore are the Americans. I have three pre-2000 M77s and they are solid, heavy rifles. Two shoot lights out and one throws fliers every few. Just wondering if they’ve advanced that line over the last 25 years, it just put it all in the American line.

Isn’t that what Jim’s 416 is in?

Well, I finally scraped up enough and sold a few old shotguns. Placed the order.

I went with the Tikka Ace Game in 7PRC despite our best attempts to talk myself out of it. It’s just really what I wanted. I almost went with the 7 Rem Mag. I almost went a Roughtech 6.5 PRC.

But the shiny new 7 is what I wanted. It will be here Friday. I’ll slap the Vortex on it, and the bipod, and then we’ll see how badly it needs a muzzle brake. Next up will be the Backstop though.

Now the fun starts.

That’s the rifle I’d be ordering if it was t got the fact I paid Aero Precision for one… that I have no idea when it will arrive. I hope you got at Locked and loaded as they had it on sale for $1400

Guy at local range has a sig cross in 6.5 CM and the Sawtooth in 7PRC. This guy is a shooter there very week. Knows his stuff, here is what he said:

The felt recoil of the 7PRC is less that his 6.5. There is like a 4-5 lbs difference between the 2 rifles. Both have Backstops. Both are suppressed. And this backs what I’ve been saying, a 7PRC is manageable if you put it in the right platform. I love shooting mine.

I think you’re going to love the 7PRC in the Ace, just put a big break or suppressor on it and a Backstop.

Also helps if you don’t try to shoot the hottest, heaviest load out of it.
