Need help with COL

My COAL = 3.3635
Powder - VV N565
Charge - Max is 65.1 according to Hornady
Barrel = 22"

Thanks

so using those inputs, Quickload shows a MV of 2587fps.

I tried in GRT and got 2702

VV’s data says 65.7 is max, and it should be 2825, but out of a 24 inch barrel. 22 would be 50-60fps slower.

So quite a bit of difference. I’ve seen that before.

Personally, I’d stick with Hornady or VV’s load data since they are lower than what either computer program says, and see/record what happens.

GRT is still a useful tool, and projectile data is being added and available on the google docs link on discord. For ease, link is below. It is still an old resource - bit like Quickload…..

Ive always found the Hornady OAL method a real faff…….Eric Cortina’s method works for me across 6 calibres………

Finally, a load of German engineers who launched XXL reloading have got together and now launched Apex LoadPro. For around $30 you get a very good interface with good data. Few glitches (e.g. they base 22ARC data on AR pressure levels only) - but Germans are conservative by nature…….

PS…….Worth a look at https://www.p-max.uk/ too. Focuses on calculating operating pressures and is a good cross-reference tool.

I found the XXL platform not only conservative but cumbersome to use. If you are a computer geek that loves sitting at the keyboard I’m sure you will like it, I personally would rather pick up the book page the data and get going on the loading bench. But, I must say that Gemini AI does a pretty good job and will footnote its data so you can cross reference and check for accuracy.

It is a bit …..as said the Germans are conservative by nature…..and definitely effects their calculations for XXL Relaoding. Is a bit clunky too and doesn’t run well on some platforms….but still better than Quickload which is designed for systems from the early 2000’s.

You can still buy Quickload to run on a computer on a CD….

XXL reloading’s newer software on Apex LoadPro is much better, and if you have a XXL membership it’s cheaper to access….so may be worth a look?

It also has a AI feature that you can search loads on that is pretty good

PS, I’m 57 and a technophobe - but still found it pretty easy to work my way around.
