2023 Hunting Season Anticipations

With early seasons beginning I’d love to hear about everyone’s upcoming hunts. So if you like, share the hunt your most excited about and what about it your looking forward to. Also, if you find some success I would love to hear about it. Here are my Season Anticipations. I had been excited for a Montana antelope hunt, but against the odds my party didn’t draw. Now I’m chiefly looking forward to chasing elk with my bow here in Montana. This is only my third year bowhunting with my brother and I can’t wait to get in the timber and try to draw one in. Hopefully we close the distance this year.

Sweet, best of luck.

I’m pretty excited to get some grouse with my .22 in September. Hop on my motorcycle and be somewhere else every day :joy:

I have my ID panhandle deer tag good for WT or Mulie during archery, rifle or muzzleloader. 3 or 4 months for that stretched out. Mule deer is only 10 days though for rifle.
I have my elk LOP tag in Oregon good for any elk from Aug 1 to Mar 30 2024 so only 8 months for that. And my LOP deer tag any deer but only from sept to end of feb.
and bear / lion tags should that presents itself.

My late brother’s son is in Couer D Alene. He’s an Idaho resident and just passed hunter’s Ed. I really want to take him on a deer hunt this fall but I don’t know the area AT ALL.

Any ideas for productive units he could hunt with OTC tags? I’m gonna fly up and take him but i want him to get a shot off since it’s his first time.

This hunt is a pretty big deal to me since it’s my late brother’s son, so I’m stressing it a bit.

It’s not super close to Coeur d’Alene but unit 39, just east of Boise is a good bet, lots of public land.

If he really wants to be a hunter, have him come out to the rainforest with me in W. WA for November Elk camp. That’ll make a man out him :joy:

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve spent quite a bit of time hunting 39. Some great country.

That’s a really special hunt. I hope you guys connect!

Just recently went on a hog hunt with my nephew, brother and dad. Next up is our annual pheasant hunting trip out in Western ND with my extended family (coming up here in October). Then after that deer season back home in Missouri in November. Might even try muzzle loader after that in December, if I can manage it with my work schedule. Never done muzzle loader before but after watching Jim’s videos on it, I thought… why not?

I was planning a hog hunt with my son this month. Going to have to push it a little as he broke his hand doing martial arts. Didn’t pull deer tags this year. I’m newer to hunting and here in CA. I’ve hunted B zone public land with a buddy, but didn’t have any luck. I’m hoping to do some more scouting this year and pull tags next year. Anyone who knows CA, I’d sure appreciate suggestions. We are doing our annual goose hunt in December. May also get a chance to do some pheasant with a couple of guys from church.

I have a non resident unit 16 tag for idaho. Not quite the panhandle. I hunted unit 14 last year it was filthy with deer and the unit was recovering from ( blue tongue?)
I want to hunt the panhandle I have a sgt at work thats from there he said there are whitetail everwhere.
Idaho game and fish posts impressive harvest stats for both unit 1 and 16.
Anytime I have an excuse to take a kid hunting I go if at all possible. He will thank you!

My bro’s elk wallow. NR wolf tags in ID are only $32
I shall be getting a tag.

For my 11-year old son and 8-year old daughter it’s all about chasing antelope. We’ll go to my parents’ house in South Dakota to hunt with my 85-year old dad (he has two buck tags) in October. Then in Nov/Dec will be back home in Colorado to fill my late season private land doe tag. My 8-year old daughter loves using her skinning/boning knife to skin antelope and to break down a hind quarter each year. Both hunts should require us to leave home at 6am and be home by noon. That’s my favorite kind of camping…
