Shot a whitetail in South Texas today with the 22 Creedmoor. Terminal performance was exceptional—I really was impressed.
Nicely Done @backfire
Nice work. I look forward to hearing more about this hunt with a small cartridge like a 22 is
What range, and which bullet?
580 yards, 80gr ELDX, heart shot.
Very nice and impressive!
Nice job Jim. We’re looking forward to a YouTube episode on this!!!
It’s the latest YouTube video
Just got a Ruger American gen2 in 6.5 creedmoor. And ordered a 22 creedmoor barrel for it from Odenworks. I think it will work well for my deer hunting given the success Jim and others have shown. I know I am sensitive to recoil in that yea I do flinch. Years of 3006 has that reaction in me yet I think
Be sure to give us a report on the accuracy from that Odin barrel.
The exclusive deal Texas Ammunition has with Hornady will be over at the end of October.
Appreciate all that their team has done to bring this cartridge mainstream, but also looking forward to seeing it continue to grow and develop and see what other options come to the table.
I got two brand new 22 Creedmoor Hornady loads coming. Looking forward to showing those on the channel.
With this happening, have to wonder how that’s going to affect the 25. Wonder if the 22 and 25 are going to be in competition with each other.
I just received the vmax and Superformance plan on testing when I return from Africa I Love my 22 creedmoore 18 inch barrel over 3000 fbs and no recoil ringing steel 500 with ease
I’ve never shot a big game animal with a 22 centerfire but after watching Jim’s YouTube I’m thinking a lightweight, short 22 Creedmoor might be a fun project. Plus Alberta recently changed the regulations to allow 22 centerfires for big game. That said I am a devoted high shoulder shot guy; I hate that feeling in the pit of my stomach when I can’t find my animal right away. So, do you think that the 80 grain ELDX, or a comparable bullet, is adequate?
I shot a whitetail buck this year with the 22creedmoor and 80gr eldx. Close range 50 yards running at me as I was in a elevated stand shot was high but dropped on the spot
very nice good looking deer and at 580 awesome shot
I think 22 creed is adequate for high shoulder shots.
For me, my high shoulder shot is ALWAYS a two-shot. Drop them and then within 5 seconds shoot another in them on the ground for insurance.
Thank you sir; think I’ll give it a go. I’ve been working on a custom 6/284 which has turned into an exercise in frustration; I need something fun. Should be an interesting winter project. I’m thinking Fierce Carbon Rival with a 20” barrel. Short, light, accurate - what’s not to like.
The beauty of the high shoulder shot is that it drops the animal where it’s standing, I haven’t typically fired a second shot unless there was heavy cover, but it makes a lot of sense.
After hunting with a 22 creed for a season and shooting 6 whitetails and different ranges from 400 to 70 the eldx bullets seem to not be the right bullet for all ranges it seemed like the longer shots 250 and longer the bullet seems to hold up better but after 6 deer I had only had 1 exit hole and that was from the traditional behind the shoulder shot . I took high shoulder shots on the rest of them 3 of the deer ran off and then I had one that needed a follow up shot. I am thinking about trying some different cooper bullets to hopefully get an exit to help out with tracking if the deer run off.
