Just watch the new video on 25 creed, wondered how it compares to the 6 creed….. I get it beats the 6.5, but is the 6 creed better than the 25 ballisticly?
The barrel life on 25 will be substantial vs the 6 creed. My personal thoughts is better suited to big game than 6 creed ( I would use it on cow elk or spike) .
Good point. Should have mentioned the 6 creed.
At 400 yards, the 25 creed beats it by 2 inches on wind but loses on drop. But the big one has been mentioned already that it has much better barrel life.
I have searching YouTube for content you covered with the 25 Creed video, so thanks for doing that one.
I’m surprised to hear it’s doing as well as it is. I thought PRS was leaning more towards 6 dasher or 6 CM to give you that best balance of wind/drop/recoil.
I’m trying to understand the appeal to hunters. I know some hunters are choosing the 6MM to meet state caliber minimums, but I’m not sure it changes what most people will hunt with any of the creedmoor. The 22, 6, 25, 6.5 CM all kill deer. So I guess you’re getting better barrel life, but probably going with a longer barrel to get the speed up as you go up in bullet size?
We are going to have to do a Creedmoor shootout!
Better data on the 25 over the 6.5 and 6 overall. The 22 is a tough one, but for long range hunting I think the 25 weeks out the 22.
6.5 wins for ammo availability and choice. 22 wins for speed. 25 wins on overall BC. 6 might win for recoil/distance
I have the 6.5 prc, 6.5 creed, the 6 creed and a 6 ARC. Been on the fence to get a 25 creed as for PRS I love my 6 creed it shoots fantastic. Hard to justify even another barrel when they are all very close to each other. But I am thinking……
It was a good recent podcast on this, I believe it was the Hornady podcast. The guest was a major competitor and was talking about how what’s in Vogue in PRS changes.
A few years ago they started designing stages where spotting your impact went from being very important, to the most important thing that you could do. Therefore everyone started doing the 6 mm. Nowadays, they’ve started changing the stage design and now High BC is becoming the most important thing and people are starting to swing back the other way and the 6.5 Creedmoor is seeing a Resurgence in prs
The 25 Creedmoor is sort of a compromise position between the two
PRS blog had a good breakdown as well.
“Everyone is searching for that “Goldilocks” balance between these 4 competing characteristics:
-
Low recoil so you can stay on target and be in a position to see exactly where the bullet hit (as short as 300-400 yards)
-
Good ballistics/low wind drift
-
Energy downrange for a large bullet signature on impact (as far as 1100 yards)
-
Consistency match-to-match and over an entire season (minimal “tuning” or management to stay competitive)
It’s impossible to optimize for all four of those at the same time, so we’re all trying to strike the “right” balance between those competing characteristics, which is very subjective. There is certainly no one-size-fits-all “right” answer, which is why this large sample size of the very best shooters in the world is so interesting!”
