I am looking at a reduced load for my Grandson shooting his Mom’s 270 Win. It’s a Tikka T3X Lite so has a little thump. I know Barnes has a 110 TTSX BT load but I am going to reload for the rifle. I too am looking at a 110 TTSX BT and using H4895. Looking at various reloading manuals I am thinking I can start at 44 gr and see what the velocity is. I have a bunch of Varget powder but it appears to be too fast of burner for what I want. I am thinking I wanting just over 2900 fps. I am looking for some thoughts if anyone else has gone down this path? I’ve read good things about this bullet being used for deer hunting. Thanks for any input, the sources seem to be few. And Jim it does have your backstop recoil pad which has help a lot, just need to take a little more recoil out if so not flinching. Then we can work our way up.
I’ve shot some Factory 110 loads in a 270 and it definitely recoils less than the standard 130.
The big thing you have to keep in mind with a All Copper bullet like the ttsx is that they are really velocity dependent and require higher velocities than most other forms of bullets at impact in order to function properly. Typically 1,800-2000 feet per second at impact is needed. So if you download it you may end up with a round that doesn’t have a very effective range before it runs out of speed. But then again, depending upon your specific hunting situation that might be perfect.
Agreed on the copper bullets. My goal is to stay up around 2900fps for expansion performance.
