300 PRC build

Jim need some advice. I am building a hunting rifle in 300 PRC. I have a Weatherby 307 action. I would like to put a prefit threaded barrel on it. (Possibly carbon wrap). I would like to stay between $400 and $600 for the barrel. Don’t know if that is possible. I still need the trigger and stock. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Rob

Just curious, what game will you be hunting with a 300 PRC? Don’t see many builds in that caliber. Kinda like hunting with a torpedo.

One option would be Straight Jacket Armory. I haven’t used them personally, but I have heard good things about them. WEATHERBY MODEL 307 PRE-FIT BARRELS - Straight Jacket Armory

Tell me more about how you’re hoping to use the rifle. 300prc in a lightweight package is usually not a recipe for an accurate rifle.

My buddy has a 300 PRC as his elk rifle. 30” barrel (Proof CF) on REM 700 action. Huskamaw scope. Forgot which stock, but it weights about 9lbs. Recoil is about what my 7PRC because of the break he uses. It’s a massive break.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a carbon fiber barrel for less than $900.

Yeah, getting the recoil down works with a brake. It’s getting the accuracy that concerns me.

He’s taken elk out at 700+ yards. I’ve shot it. It’s a sub MOA gun, but not 1/2 MOA. He shoots Hornandy Precision Hunter 212s.

It may not be an accurate round compared to 6.5 Creed, and maybe he’s just got an ideal setup for accuracy, but he’s got an accurate 300PRC.

Maybe these PRC magnum rounds just demand a custom setup.
