Now for the fun part. Im very new to building rifles,
But I’m wanting to build something that I’m excited to shoot.
Chassis, barrel, action, can, scope, mounts, the whole 9yds
I want to start with 300prc. I know a rifle can be built with thousands of dollars, but my goal is to stay away from 10k. I am expecting it may take me every bit of 5k for the rifle I’m wanting to build just from some pieces I’ve looked at, but I have no idea what I should get or what I should stay away from.
I seen a 7prc Jim built that got me interested in making one for myself.
This is all I’ve ever built so I’m very lost past the lever guns
Sounds like a great project. I’m assuming this is a range gun and not for hunting since you said it’d be something you’d be excited to shoot? I can’t imagine a lightweight 300 prc being fun
I just built a gun on the MDT ACC Elite Chassis. It is sooo good! Would be a perfect platform for this. We can get it for you for 10% less than anywhere else online if you message us at help@backfireshop.com
How awful would it be for hunting if it was a lighter weight. I was for sure going to use it for hunting along with the range. It wouldn’t be every hunt, but for sure would take it.
My buddy has a 300 PRC on a lightweight carbon Fiber stock. Rifle is about 7.5-8lbs. He has a massive break on it so the recoil is about what a 30-06 is.
I mostly don’t love mismatches in cartridge/rifle weight because of what it does to accuracy. A lightweight rifle with a big cartridge almost never shoots very well.
Does it have to be 300 prc? Tell us everything you’d want to do with this gun.
It doesn’t have to be 300prc. I’m open to anything I can suppress. I’d like to be able to shoot long distance, but be able to go elk, caribou, bear etc hunting and still be good.
Any caliber that would fit that bill I’m good with. I’m really wanting to build an ultimate do it all gun and if I’m being honest have a rifle that will make my gun nut coworkers a bit jealous.
No disrespect. Sort of a mixed metaphor. About as strange as a Ferrari with mud flaps. But, if it puts a grin on your face why not. So John Wayne walks into this bar and………
Cody, I would use the same suppliers Jim mentioned above - however, I am not a chasis guy (yet) so would look at Manners, McMillan or AG Composites for a stock.
