I have a few hundred hornady factory .308 brass that I saved over the years shot from our Bergara .308 WIN. I was going to start reloading for this rifle. I got all the brass cleaned and sized. Now when I go to prime them, its really TOUGH. After struggling to figure out why, I finally measured the primer pocket. They measure 0.204 where they should measure 0.210 -0.2085. Not sure what I can do?
Hm. I have never encountered this. Anyone else face this issue? Seems odd.
I got a primer pocket uniformer to solve the issue but seating primers is not as enjoyable like most brass…
For the most part I have found most things with the Hornady label on them to be sub standard, especially when it comes to brass, which does not last very long and bullets which are not as accurate as others. Thus I stay away from most things Hornady.
Yea, I throw away all my used Hornady brass now. I’ve just had too many issues with it and if I need cheap brass I use Sig, otherwise I use ADG or Lapua brass for my hunting rounds.
hornady changed the size of the primer hole a pretty good while back…years. It used to work like most without seating problems. I think they changed brass makers, and if you look at it, there appears to be a small extra ring of brass around the lip, where say a piece of winchester would not. I dont know why they did that, other than to make it aggravating for reloaders. I just got a primer pocket tool and cut it out, then load it.
Primer pocket.
Well, suffice to say I will not be reloading anymore factory ammo brass from Hornady. The primer pocket tool is taxing on the finger joints for me.
Well, if you don’t want the brass, I will take it and be willing to pay a fair price for it. If you want to dump it, let me know. 308 win only.
Thanks
Hey John,
Sometime I will go thru my spent brass and see whats there. The 100 or so that I already sized will be used though.
Might try using Dillon super swager 600.
