Don’t live near a beach. Are those clams? Looks like there’s some kind of plucker tool on top of the truck? How does this work?
Razor clams. and if you like clams they are the best. The plucker thing(lol i like that name) is a clam gun that has a hole in the handle that you plug with your finger after pushing down into the sand and create suction to pull a wad of sand out and make a hole.
Do it a couple times or get down in the hole with your hand and dig down and pluck the clam out. They leave a tell tale 30 cal hole in the sand so you know where they are in the sand. They can dig down out of range so you kind of need to get on it Go to slow they dig down out of range. I was up to my elbow and even shoulder to get a hold of them. Fantastic way to spend a family day at the beach. And clam chowder and fritter are soooo good.
PS. the purple clam gun belongs to my wife. ![]()
and yes that is a lead sled in my truck.
pictures after the shell is off and then cleaned. the neck is the pump muscle for moving water over the gills and to stomach foot. the neck is great for fritters and the foot goes into chowder.
Looks fantastic! Never seen that before.
We love clamming the Oregon coast, though we usually do the estuaries for bay clam varieties, since razors are often closed when we have the opportunity.
Always a fun, muddy, sandy mess that the kids love!
