Hey guys I’m about to start working up a load for my springfield waypoint chambered in 6.5 PRC. Has anyone got a load that works good for them that I can start off with? I’ve got 156 grain Berger EOL bullets h1000,h4831 and reloaded 26 on hand.
I’m in the same place as you. About to start load dev for the same bullet on my Fierce Mountain Reaper.
I do think it’d be cool to put together a database of known good loads for different cartridges. So often they work well on different rifles with minor tweaks.
A database with various good loads for different calibers would be a great “community” effort. This would be the ideal platform to make that happen.
I haven’t yet started reloading or load development but I would be willing to share my good loads with others.
Had a custom build done in 6.5 PRC about 4 1/2 years ago shortly after its introduction. Build includes a Bighorn action, Bartlain #4 Bull Sporter barrel (24"), Manners stock. Tried H1000 and RL26 with Hornady ELD-X 143 grain. Final (hunting) load for the ELD-X was 56 gr. RL26 .050 off the lands shooting at 3050 FPS, sub .5 moa. Also tried Barnes 127gr LRX @ 50.5 gr RL26 and Hammer 127 gr @ 54.3 gr. RL26 with good results. Prefer the Hammer. Tried Berger 156 gr. with 54.8 to 57 gr RL26 with poor accuracy results. I think the bullet is just too long to seat properly in my chamber.
I’m working on 2 loads for 6.8 Western that I’ll post once I’m finished. One with 170gr Berger EOL and one with 162gr Hammer Hunters.
Did you ever find a good load for this gun? I have the same gun and same caliber.
Yes sir I did. I had to swap the the 143 eldx using 59.0 grains of h1000 shooting 2950 fps and I’m getting around a 3/8 group. Both the 156 bergers and the 143 eld-x shot good but I was getting better groups with the 143’s. My SD is around 8fps with both bullets. Hope this helps you out, one other thing I would recommend is changing the trigger out. The field trigger that is in it is a decent trigger but when I changed it to a trigger tech Diamond it
Made the gun a lot easier to shoot.
I’ve been thinking about doing that, thanks for the help!!
I’ll have to give that charge a go. I just loaded my first 100 cases to start development with 147 ELDM, 143 ELDX, 144SMK, and 140 Golddot. The only powders I’ve found are H1000 and Retumbo
I tried retumbo but h1000 did a better job
I just loaded up some Hornadys 143 and 147, Speer 140 Gold dot, 156 Elite Hunter, and 144 SMK with H1000 so I’m almost out. Now to find more.
Luckily it’s not to hard to find these days
Midway has free hazmat right now
Check local stores like Cabela’s that way no hazmat fees
Where are you finding RL powders to buy?
I can find some alliant powders but reloaded 26 is pretty much fairy dust right now.
I’ve loaded same load for a Savage ultralight and CVA Cascade, both guns are shooting under moa but liked a little different measurement off the lands. I used Hodgen’s US 869 66gr. with ELD-X 143. I may build up later to see if we can get more velocity, they’re around 2720’ right now but I’m leaving them where they are now because both guns are for new young hunters that are recoil sensitive.
