Looking at different 6.5prc options. Also considering trying my first custom bolt action build. Today I’m looking at Weatherby MODEL 307™ ALPINE™ MDT CARBON or Sig Cross Sawtooth. What are yalls thoughts?
I have the 307 Alpine CT in 6.5 prc… it’s a tack driver… I constantly shoot 1/2”-3/4” groups with it… but the cons are definitely are the 90deg bolt throw, so you’ll have to pay attention to what scope you put on it along with the mount.. mine has the peak 44 stock which obviously was built purposely for Adam Weatherby as it does not allow any length of pull and is set at 13 1/4” total LoP… I guess so that Adam can go to any store in the country and grab it to do a hunt
I just can’t believe in this day and age that they would create a modern style rifle but leave you absolutely zero options for adjusting the LOP.
I would pick Tikka T3x over both those, then customize it.
Otherwise the Sig, mainly because I don’t like the bolt throw of the 307
I was working through the same thing and was considering the Sig Cross Sawtooth and the Seekins Precision.
I ultimately decided on the custom route.
But, I would recommend the Tikka route, too.
I went with a falkor defense action for my custom build as it had changeable bolt heads so I can easily do a barrel swap for other cartridges and it has a 75 degree bolt throw, but it’s 1499 for just the action so probably out of most people’s budget
Both could be good, but honestly I’d go for a Tikka with a thicker barrel like a supervarmint and put it in a stock or chassis of your choosing.
if you already have an action you could use (or buy a Weatherby 307) spin on a Bartlein barrel and you’ll have the best there is.
If you are going the route of a tikka action, Midway is having a sale on BSF Tikka profits, they have several calibers available to choose from in the drop down box
Just bought mine from their got it for like 450 but a blank though
