6 GT vs 6 Dasher for Hunting

Would you go with the 6 Dasher or 6 GT for hunting? Likely 18-20” barrel to shoot suppressed.

Both seem to be extremely accurate.

Both are going to have great barrel life.

Both were top scoring on RAD! I know the 6 Dasher won, but it was also in a full custom.

Both seem very forgiving and easy to load for.

High quality brass for both.

Supposedly the 6 GT was built partially for better feeding than the 6 dasher, but sounds like it may not be an issue.

6 GT has a slight edge in case capacity. May help with heavier bullets, but probably a hair more recoil. Thinking the new 116g Sierra TMK.

6 dasher is insanely popular in PRS. 6 GT is 2nd, but it’s a very distant 2nd.

6 Dasher may require special magazine.

6 GT has a badass nickname. (Gay Tiger)

I know we’re splitting hairs here between the 2 cartridges, but figured I’d ping the group and see what or why you would pick one or the other.

Piet Milan at Impact Shooting hunts with the 6 Dasher and apparently loves it for smallish African Plains game and baboons. I think either one would be a lot of fun for Whitetail and down. Let us know what you decide!!!

I have been thinking about the same thing for a while now I will be very interested to hear people’s thoughts. For me its going to come down to availability of brass dies and probably reamers. I feel like you can’t lose either way. Oh, and if someone makes a factory hunting rifle in either of the cartridges that will probably also help the cause.

After watching Garret shoot the 6 Dasher in the last video, my thought went to rebarreling my 243, which is a great shooting gun. So I had ChatGPT dona compare contrast and what I came away with is that I am sticking with my 243 for now. Ammo availability and flexibility being the main reasons. 6 Dasher is thought to be the most consistently accurate of the 3, but it’s splitting hairs. I just will not be shooting out to 1000 with the 243 with the same results as I would with the 6 Dasher or GT.

Doubt you will see a significant performance difference between the two. The GT does have more case capacity, so that might help push a mono faster if you want to hunt with a mono. Not sure how much, Barnes does not have load data for either.

I’ve got a GT, Bergara Premier Competition. I chose GT for ability to find factory ammo, good feeding, and there were no Dashers available locally.

It’s pretty heavy with both a heavy barrel and heavy chassis. I’m debating getting a lightweight stock for it. I haven’t really seen Factory offerings for lightweight hunting rifles in the GT

Shoots great.

The 6 GT was made for better feeding than the Dasher, but while it was being developed, better mags came out for the Dasher. I haven’t found feeding to be an issue at all.

I’m getting 2950fps with a 22” Dasher running a 105 Berger, and 3031fps in a 28” with the same load.

Also, the 6 Creed is similar if you want factory.
