6mm ARC Opinion

Hey all ,I was wondering how the community feels about the 6mm arc. Will this Caliber last or will it fizzle out as some others have. Does anyone have a modern sporting rifle in this caliber and what are your thoughts. It has been on my purchase list but yet to purchase.

I’m like you. Not sure if 6 arc is going to go the distance, and I don’t own one yet.

I know it’s for a different platform, but the 6 I’m most excited about is the 6 creedmoor.

I have a 6ARC and a 6 CM. Love them both. Easier on the shoulder and pocketbook to reload. The ARC is a Uintah Precision bolt action upper for an AR 15 and I get 2900 fps with 107smk. A gas upper is going to lose 2-300 fps. About the only way to get brass right now is to buy loaded ammo.

I’m not sure if it will stick around or not but I’ve had one for a while. It is hard to get brass for sure. I think at some point Peterson, and there was another manufacturer going to start making brass for it. I have had mine since the beginning and have had good luck with an 18 in Proof barrel. You get more speed out of a longer barrel which we all know and that’s really my only complaint. It’s hard to get speed out of one if you reload for it. LeverRevolution and CFE 223 seem to be king but they are no where near temperature insensitive. I’m currently trying some of the new Staball Match and it’s looking pretty good. Slow, but really consistent ES and SD. The Hornady factory ammo is really fast so I don’t know what voodoo they loaded into it but I would love to have some.

Happy 6 ARC gas gun user here. Shooting DTI upper with a 20" Shilen select match barrel. 3050fps with 83g Shock Hammer bullets and 30.8g TAC. Lapua 220 russian brass converted to 6 ARC. Others get even more velocity, but this load is backed off from max. to allow for warmer weather.

I see lots of predator and varmint hunter praising the 6ARC so I’m thinking that it’ll stick around in some capacity. Probably the two “downsides” are that it uses the 6.5 Grendel bolt face so there are fewer bolt guns than gas gun options it seems and Hornady is the primary supplier of ammo still. I think a lot of companies are taking a wait and see approach given how the 224 Valkyrie had a lot of initial interest than it kinda fizzled.

My belief is that with the ready ability for it to be used in a standard AR platform with appropriate bolt and upper gives it a good advantage with hog and coyote hunters… so I think the folks in the Southern states will keep it relevant. It’s probably a decent cartridge for younger recoil sensitive shooters for white tails too within 200 yds I’d guess.

That being said. I’ve been buying up 6mm Creedmoor for a switch barrel rifle I’m planning that will be based around the 6mm Creedmoor, 7mm PRC, and maybe either the 375 H&H or Ruger. So I’m not putting my money where my mouth is but I’m not opposed to getting a 18” upper for my AR’s.
