I’m working on a hand load for my 7 PRC to use for elk primarily, but hunting in general. I really think I want to run the LRX, with the ABLR as a backup plan.
Does anyone have a good starting recipe they would be willing to share? I’m running a 22” barrel suppressed.
I haven’t had supreme accuracy from 7 PRC but I woke up early this morning to load some up and try again. Gonna try a very mild load and see if I can get it shooting better.
what do you consider supreme? I’ve shot a minute and a half at 500yds with Federal fusion tipped (40 rounds), but have not found any other factory to perform like that. Even the ELDX in a Hornady load was shooting over 2” at 100.
all of that to say that I’m looking for ethical accuracy and consistency. It doesn’t need to be elite per se.
I shoot the 168 lrx out of a 22 in Barrel with h1000 as the powder. I don’t remember the exact specifics as I don’t have it in front of me right now I’m on the road, but it’s basically one grain below whatever the maximum recommended from Barnes’ load data.
Great accuracy. Not the fastest load in the world I’m getting typically about 2860 but that’s plenty enough for me
Sweet, I reloaded one load for mine. But I didn’t pay any attention to the velocity. So it shoots very accurate, about a 1/2 moa group. But the velocity is around 2500fps. That was with Retumbo and 175gr eldx bullets. @backfire, I was curious what powder I should go with for my next load. I’ve been looking at H4831sc for the next load. I would like to get as close to 3000fps as I can without going over pressure.
I did try it in a choice ammo, but I couldn’t get it to shoot at all. This is before I watched a Ron Spomer video about cleaning the barrel before shooting copper but after shooting anything jacketed, but I haven’t revisited since.
I really enjoy reloading. I’m just looking for a jumpstart. I have multiple powders loaded and just don’t have all the time in the world to shoot these loads to do a full development.
Asking cause I tested 6 rounds over max, increasing by 1 grain on each one. Up to 66.6. I never got sign, so I was going to keep it going cause I was only getting up 2840s at 66.6.
No moisture. Powders are kept indoors and temp regulated. I am just learning about all this so I am probably asking pretty basic questions. I trying to borrow y’all’s experience.
If you can excuse the mess on this target it shows some potential for a couple of powders. H4841 is the most accurate, but H1000 is also a good load. Been playing with Ramshot Grand with lots of promise and getting closer to 3000 fps. I’m having better accuracy with Sierra TGK 165’s. Really i’m moving to the TGK in most of my calibers now. They do excellent job for us in the field and the range.
