I’ve heard you mention on a couple of different podcasts that you’ve built this rifle but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the specifics. Didn’t know if you were planning on doing a video or a specific podcast on it coming up in the near future.
Also just listened to the podcast from the 13th and you talked about your disappointed in the velocities. Wanted to see what you are getting and with what bullet.
I’m curious too. I’ve been reloading 7 SAUM for a couple years now and am getting pretty good velocities. I think ultimately all things being equal the 7 prc beats it out, but 7 SAUM is close and incredibly efficient.
Would love to see some 7 SAUM loads that are working well for you guys. Here’s what I loaded but the velocities are just too slow in my 21” SAUM. Gotta keep working on that one.
I have a longer freebore than Saami. Its a 22” mcgowen barrel
175 eld x, 2930 fps, 61.3 of n560, cci br-2, coal 3.150”
175 eld x, 2830 fps, 63.5 of n565, cci br-2, coal 3.150”
195 eol elite hunter, 2769 fps, 60.5 of n560, cci br-2, coal 3.150”
I also have a 20” McGowan with more freebore than Saami but not as much as the 22”..
168 vld hunters, 2872 fps, 62.0 of n560, cci br-2, coal 2.980”
175 eld-x, 2774 fps, 61.0 of n560, cci br-2, coal 3.075”
occasionally I have gotten a flattened primer or ejector mark. I’m down here in AZ and I do shoot when it’s hot. Maybe that’s why, but there’s not a ton of data for 7 saum to begin with let alone with a longer freebore so I could be unwittingly hotrodding it. I think n560 specifically does really well in shorter barrels.
Don’t have my books in front of me right now but I know I’m pushing a 162 eldx with Max minus one grain of h4350 per Hornady load data. I get 2750 out of a 24-in PBB
I’ve considered trying to push it harder but this load is so amazingly accurate right now I don’t want to mess with things
