7 SAUM load

I built a new 7 saum and following jims advise picked a load that a lot of guys are shooting. The load is extremely accurate and groups are sub 1/2 inch and over 30 rounds fired I was getting 4.9sd on my Garmin. Gun shoots great and I hit a ispic sized target 4 out of 5 times at 1760 yards. My velocities are running at 2754 on average. Based on a lot of guys posts this is slow. Would you guys try to work up a hotter load or be happy. Using 4831sc powder berger 180 hybrid targets agm brass an 215m primers. 26” MTU barrel

Wooh! Thats a great load. Whats the powder charge. Are you anywhere near max?

If it’s not broken don’t fix it… my 6.5 prc shoots awesome, and the first they I shot through it was the Hornady precision hunter, as temped as I am to try other ammo, I feel in the long run I’d just be chasing my tail, wasting time and money, which could be used on other gun stuff. Bummed in one sense as I was hoping to get to give it a taste of other stuff…

I’m am new to reloading so take this with a grain… If you enjoy the process, what the harm in trying out new things to see what you gun can do. You’ll always have your current load to fall back on.

Should be interesting to see what others say. I usually aim for 2900 fps overall, but I’d take accuracy any day of the week over squeezing out a bit more velocity. There’s also other factors for myself now that I’ve been shooting suppressed. My 223 with a 20” barrel and 23.5g of H4895 is around 2700 FPS and that’s the trade off I’m willing to live with to have a shorter rifle.

Like Ben mentioned, If you like tinkering, and you can safely go hotter, it might be fun to try something new, but I don’t think you need to chase velocity either.

Whatever you decide to do, hitting targets at 1760 yards either way is really impressive, nice job!

Hunting or target shooting?

If it’s for hunting: then does your current velocity hinder you? (Limit your distance too much) if yes, then work up if you can. If not, use what you got.

For target shooting, I’d leave it alone.

Thanks all. I am shooting this with a short action zermatt tl3 and a CRB 26” barrel. The load is 57.2 grains of 4831sc, 180 grain berger hybrid target, 215 m primers, adg brass. This was going to be my starter load and barrel break in but it is shooting so good I hate to mess with it. I am not hunting with this load I switch between proof carbon 6.5 prc and 300 wsm barrels for my lighter weight hunting setup. I got invited to mile shoot and had the ability to take it out to 2200 yards so I got the barrel as I have be intrigued with the 7 SAUM for a while. Did hit 2 times out of 8 at 2200 but there was 36 moa of holdover after max dialup so I got lucky with my Kentucky windage on that one. I use a razor gen 3 6x36 with a 20 moa rail. Need one of those prism dohickys to chase this more.

It did get good enough to me that I am doing a norma 300 build now LOL

And as a side note, my daughter shot a golf ball at 1004 yards with this setup at roaming shot in louisiana.
