Just got Seekins’ email about their new rifle lines and noted they had 7mm Backcountry as an available chambering.
Guess we will learn about this at SHOT?

You might want to watch Backfire tomorrow.
Looks like Geissele is making a bolt rifle and will chamber this round as well. Can the hybrid steel brass be reloaded?
Is that a first for Geissele? Never seen a bolt gun from them.
Yeah, me neither. I’m pretty sure it’s a first for them. Euro optic has them at 3800 which seems pretty steep for a hunting rifle. But maybe it’s that good?
Interesting, was not aware they were entering the bolt action Market either.
They tend to command top dollar for their AR’s, so not surprised that the bolt gun is quite pricey. Whether or not it lives up to that price is another matter.
They’re probably used to the LE/mil contracts where they can overcharge. I will say they usually have some pretty good sales, and their receiver sets are fun to build off of and more reasonably priced. Especially compared to LMT, KAC, etc
Have the suppressor manufacturers had anything to say about this? Wondering if the extra chamber pressure might cause problems for your typical run of the mill suppressor.
Jim will this new cartridge be a standard or magnum bolt face? And can you use any brand of action (tikka) to build a rifle since it has such high pressure?
Check out the YouTube video from Backcountry hunting podcast today. Spomer and JVB talk about the do you need stronger actions or not. According to them, any standard action of a modern rifle should be able to handle this
20,000 more pounds of pressure for 200 FPS, nah, I will pass. This will die quicker than the 6.8 western.
Great video! Is that at your new range Jim?
Standard bolt face
Yep! It’s coming along
7 BC: have watched some reviews and maybe I am missing something but…
And even moreso for 16-in barrels!
For me, if this thing actually pans out to work, and pans out to actually have some legs and not die on the vine, that would be my usage for it. I really don’t need another 20 to 24 to 26 in Mega magnum. I’ve got plenty of guns which will do that already.
But the idea of having a 16-in gun that would give me the same performance as a 22 to 24 in 280/ 7 Magnum, that truly is a game changer.
I’ve got a buddy that will invite me to go to his club and deer hunt sometimes. One of the stands on their Club is a old port-o-potty . It’s quite small and very difficult to maneuver a full-sized rifle in. A 16-incher would be sweet for something like that!
And hopefully you don’t have a 26" inch barrel and need to take a crap.
It will be interesting to see if they release the reloading data, and the case + powder becomes available. If it does, then it opens the door for the cases to be used for any caliber, and the subsequent gain in fps.
Yeah, I’ve listened to a couple of more negative minded podcasts about this in the past couple of days. From Shoot to hunt and Alterra. They say this will not be able to be reloaded
Just watched a podcast and the guys from federal said they are getting around 4-6 reloads with the new case before it fails. From the way they talked you will not be able to anneal the cartridge. So “brass” life will not be very long but it will be reloadable.
