I was wondering what 7mm BC velocities would be out of a longer barrel. It would be very cool to build a precision rifle in 7mm BC. Not a cheap round to shoot, but if you can afford to build that rifle then the $3-$5 round isn’t a problem.
I was reading about the 277 Fury a couple days ago. The cartridges adopted by the military tend to be very popular long term (30-06, 308, 5.56 etc), but there’s been almost zero interest in this new round so far. Was kind of hoping it would be a late bloomer and drive some innovation for 277 bullets or even reloading options for cartridges like the 7 BC, and finally give the 7 PRC some competition or revitalize the 6.8 indirectly, but not looking to great right now. Might be the first military adopted cartridge that a flops in commercial world.
- Yet another proprietary cartridge that no one else can make.
- While SIG is certainly known in the military / law enforcement Arena and fandom of the arena, it’s really not seen or talked about much at all with good old-fashioned, standard hunters. I can’t think of a single time at deer camp in my life I’ve seen a box of SIG ammo. Their rifles are very tactical looking in that certainly appeals to some but puts off many others. Other than Seekins, does anyone else make a standard style hunting rifle in the fury?
- SIG certainly has its fanboys. But also has a ton of detractors. When they first announced the fury they stated that civilians would only have access to the standard or low pressure ammo. The P320 has been in the news primarily for all the wrong reasons. I get video recommendations fairly routinely about how their rifle system that the fury was based on has failed also. I have no idea how much Faith to put into those reports.
Here we are a little over year into the backcountry. It certainly hasn’t taken off like gangbusters like some people were predicting. I wouldn’t say it’s dead either, at least not at this point. But it’s not doing well. I’m glad to see someone else is making ammo for it, but of all the people to be the next company to produce ammo, they had to choose remington?
I was hoping at this year’s shot Show there would be some announcements of additional Backcountry Style cartridges. But nope
