Hey Jim, signed up to plus just to ask this question:
I am just starting my “western” hunting at 50 and will being going to CO this year with my 30-06 (which I have taken all but 1 of my harvests with). However, for the next one, I do want to move to the 7mm PRC for all of its advantages.
I really liked your review of the Bergara Premier Divide, but its about $700 more than I would want to spend (even though I can afford it, I’m just frugal). I also love your Review(s) of the Tikka T3x and its action. I been advised that I should buy the T3 just for the action and then build from there, which would blow past the Divide’s sticker.
The issue obviously is that Tikka isn’t onboard with the 7mm PRC and the Divide isn’t available in that either (though it should be).
So, given that both ARE available (hypotheically), which route would you chose: Bergara Premier Divide or Tikka T3x (UPR or Supervarmit)?
Talked with someone at TIKKA a few weeks ago. He said they are unlikely to have 7 PRC before Q1 2025 but possible late 2024. He said his bosses would kill him if they found out he divulged that to me I had to press him pretty hard.
So Tikka would have to be a build as you suggested.
For this price range, how about a Fierce Rogue?
I like a Tikka build but it rarely makes financial sense to buy one planning on building—just if you already have the action.
Also, a Sig Cross Sawtooth in 7 PRC would be pretty sweet. The Divide is also a sweet choice—no hesitations there.
I didn’t really consider a Fierce Rifle… I dind’t really know at what price point they started at. But, that CT Rogue
That is a lot a special for that price point. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.
I have the Savage 110 Ultralight. Jim mentioned that in one of his most accurate rifles but has gotten rid of it. I have not fully worked it out to say. It was around $1500. So mid-tier I would say but it does have a proof carbon fiber barrel. That is what pushed me there for the price point. I will shoot suppressed and I have an idea that the cf barrel stiffness will do will with the supressor hanging out there. The rifle has a 22” barrel which is also nice. With the 7” banish 30 on it the balance point is at the front of the action near barrel. Just saying. I guess if I had more money for this I would have made different choice? With scope and supressor and rifle I am into it for $4500. Which is a lot for me.
