Hey @backfire, I was just curious what reloading manual you were using in your 7mm prc reloading and overview article. I am going to use 175gr eld-x bullets and H4831sc powder. I looked at that article and you said that 64gr of powder was the max load, but in the hornady reloading manual it shows 62.4gr is the max. I was just curious where you got that. Also, is it okay to go over the max load if there are no signs? And what are the most common signs?
That article was written when 7 PRC was first announced but wasn’t even available yet so I’m sure a lot of the info has changed.
I feel safest loading significantly (half or a full grain below the max listed weight so I will be okay on the hot days too.
Gotcha, I dont have a chronograph, is there a way to get an accurate velocity without one? And have you ever compared the geoballistics mv tuning against a chrono?
Without a chrono, it’s probably best to estimate the velocity based on bullet drop and true the ballistics by changing the velocity until the drops in the app match reality.
Okay, I believe that is what the mv tuning does.
Midway has This Competition Electronics Bluetooth Chrono that’s rock solid for $100 right now.
Okay, thanks. I might get that. I don’t do enough reloading to make an Athlon or a garmin worth it.
Are you looking for specific speeds or just trying to get a speed to put in your ballistic app? I have that cheap chronograph and don’t like it. And when compared to the Garmin it was not accurate either. The best bet if you don’t have an accurate chronograph is just shoot at distance and figure out your drop. Even with a chronograph and knowing the exact speed all the apps will give you different calculations and you still have to go test it. That’s just been my experience anyway take it for what it’s worth.
That makes sense. I mostly just want it for the app, but also a rough estimate so I know how far my max ethical hunting distance would be. So I don’t need an exact number.
