Hi everyone I am curious on those who have gotten the 7mm prc and tested the velocity. I have watched a video that I’m guessing some of you have as well that claims the velocity is not as good as advertised. And I currently have a 7mm mag so while I was thinking of upgrading maybe it’s not worth it even more so with this information. Video link is below thanks https://youtu.be/LY-BggvDzds?si=n3BJ50n5RrcIl9xg
I’m getting 2925fps with a 175gr ELDX in a 24” barrel on a Ruger GOWild 7mmPRC.
Also, I’m getting 2921fps with a 180 Berger in a 20” barrel custom by using Reloader 26.
Don’t have any velocities to report to you. Will say that I’ve watched that channel many times and there was a recent video where that person commented that ammo companies almost always inflate the velocities for their own pet cartridges. Hornady and the PRC/arc, Nosler and the 2X/3X Nosler line, etc.
Where did you find RL-26?
Found it at a local shop.
Inflate maybe not. Cherry pick likely. They probably have data that backs up the claim under the exact conditions for the DUT. Every company does it. We do it. We test our wireless range under best case conditions- not worst case because worst case means nothing. As a manufacturer you cannot control customer conditions- you can only provide a reference for the stated conditions.
In electronics we get min typ and max for component specs. They could do something like that but still not quite analogous.
I would say the only reason to upgrade from 7mag is if you want to really reach out farther. I bought one because I did not have a 7mag But having said that I have a 556 300AAC 270 280 7prc 308 06 300WM 6.5 CM 8mag 375 h&h among others. So I am not a role model for not buying another caliber. But I still hunt with one rifle. Its a genetic disease passed down from my father.
I shot a 9 round group from a Fierce Carbon Rogue in 7prc. 22" barrel with a Raptor suppressor. I was shooting factory Hornady Precision Hunter 175gr ELDX. the 9 rounds were clocked with the new Garmin xero c1 pro chronograph. Minimum 2808.2 fps, Maximum 2880.7 fps, AVG 2845.4 fps. EXT Sprd 72.5 fps, STD Dev 23.2 fps.
Thank you for all the help. I know it’s a thing of always wanting what is the best? At hunting distances under 200 yards where all my deer have been shot it makes very little to no difference the velocities and caliber as well. My Browning BAR 7mm mag shoots very accurately and I will probably never see any difference between it and the prc in any hunting situation
I am building a PRC because Jim did - he is costing me a ton of money lately.
