7PRC Barnes 160g LRX

Howdy Gang,

So I have a Fierce Mountain Reaper in 7PRC, it loves the Fierce Dirt Nap 160g Barnes LRX, however Fierce does not have any available, nor do any other US based website I could find. Fierce will not answer my email or voicemails to say they plan on making more or not (I know, shocking); I just bought boxes of the Barnes factory 160g LRX, but it does not shoot near as well out of that rifle. Not sure what the best path forward is, not really setup to do hand loading right now, but I am close. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I have an Elk hunt in unit 70 in Colorado in October and a whitetail hunt in unit 16 in Kansas in Dec. I have one box of dirt nap left, saving it for the Elk hunt. I know with weather and altitude changes I will have to re-zero, so I think one box will be cutting it too close for both hunts in very different conditions from Texas. The elk hunt is definitely my priority, I can use my 270 or 6.5 grendel for Kansas as distances are not expected to be over 250m.

Sorry to hear your rifle doesn’t like the 160. It’s performed well in mine.

If you want to stick with copper there is the 168 lrx, but that’s going to be found with custom ammo manufacturers and you’re going to have to spend some serious cash for that. They just recently released a 170 ttsx which would be certainly effective especially if you’re not trying to go for the absolute longest shots in the world.

If you’re okay with a more traditional cup and core bullet, the Federal loading of the 175 eldx seems to do quite well.

Hey… check Fierce Dirtnap 7mm PRC 160gr Barnes LRX 20 Box | Alquist Arms Turlock CA

they show they have 1 box.

Another place to check would be Fierce Dirtnap - 7mm PRC - 160 gr. Barnes LRX - 20 CT - DIRTNAP-7MMPRC-160LRX

They say they have 20 boxes… hopefully between these two places you can get your hands on some.

Bought it. Well hopefully, I got through checkout. Fingers crossed. Good looking out, that did not come up in my search.

20 boxes is in Canada didn’t see a ship to US option unfortunately. But 1 box for each hunt! Then I can sell the rifle.

excellent…

Glad you found some ammo! Really tough when the manufacturers keep switching loads on us.

It really is. It would be one thing if the companies would tell you what was in the lot. I know Jim has said before if your rifle likes a load from a single lot, buy all you can. I guess that was my mistake when I first got the rifle from fierce, but at 100$ a box, I couldn’t afford more than 5 boxes after buying the rifle.
