I have two of them with Rem 700 long actions. Sad that it went obsolete. It is a hard hitting son of a gun and pretty accurate. I dropped a 1100 lb Canadian moose in its tracks. Of course all are hand loads. I have muzzle brakes on them as they kick hard - very hard. 200 gr at over 3000 fps and over 4100 ft-lbs at the muzzle.
So the question is - any 8mm fanboys out there? Other than my father and myself - I have never met anyone that shoots this. The upside is my brass lasts me a long time. Not a plinking round. You can barely get 80 rounds per lb of powder.
I don’t have one but sounds like a real kick to shoot—and I mean that in both ways ![]()
The 325 WSM was always a cartridge that I was surprised never really took off outside of in specific regional areas like Alaska and the PNW area. I don’t have one but it always intrigued me as does the 8mm Mauser still.
I was curious about that cartridge as well. Vortex did a podcast on the 325 wsm back in May that did a really good job of explaining the history and the reasons why it never really took off. They definitely talked me out of going any further down that road.
Yeah they hit the wave tops but often they miss some key factors and points in their 10 minute talks. For reloaders it can still make since but a lot of 338’s do as well.
