Hi Guys,
I am a novice as far as firearms and specially ammos go. The question I am about to ask might be second nature to most of you but not to me.
As some of you know, I recently took possession of my Desert Tech HTI 416B. And come to find out 416 B is not readily available and also not cheap. I started looking for it as soon as I placed my rifle order in like 8 months prior to delivery. My gunshop manager has been able to order it directly from Barrett whenever available and I have been buying them on gunbroker when available and reasonable. But, I was looking at a vendor on gunbroker and when I looked at his ammo inventory, this is what he had as far as “416” goes: 416 Rem Mag, 416 Rigby, 416 Weatherby Mag and 416 Ruger.
The question is are they all equivalent (beside the grainage)? Or each is unique and not interchangeable with a Barrett 416? Thanks ahead of time.
There are some rare instances where a cartridge goes by multiple names. One example of this is the common 9mm which can go by 9x19, 9mm luger, or 9mm parabellum. Even then, there are cartridges that include 9mm in the name that are a different cartridge. The rounds you listed are all different cartridges and can’t be interchanged. The number included in the name of most cartridges represents the diameter of the bullet, in this case “416” means they all shoot a 41 caliber bullet. Even then there are exceptions to this naming convention for various reasons. As a rule of thumb, don’t stick anything in your gun that you don’t know to be exactly what is supposed to go in it.
Thank you Andrew for the information. I am glad I asked before committing myself to at least a couple of them which would have been a total waste of money. I suppose, my subscription to backfire just paid for itself. Thanks again.
Just confirming Andrew is definitely right here. Those loads would not work in your 416 Barrett.
Glad you’re asking questions rather than pretending to know. That’s the fastest way to learn.
Yes, absolutely.
