Anyone experienced with RPR stock folding/unfolding?

Hi,
I have a problem which i should have asked at the gunshop before leaving. This past weekend i picked up my RPR 338 LM with the bolt out and the stock in a close position. In order for it to fit inside the Pelican case, the stock has to be folded open.
But, i am unable to get it to fold open by pressing the ‘button’ to release it. The button wont budge when apply pressure. I even have the safety key turned to safe on both side thinking might help, but no.
I watched three different YouTube videos and read the manual and every sigle one says once you press the button it should release the stock to be folded.
The only other possibility i can think of is that with the bolt still in and turned down (cocked) then it would allow you to release and fold the stock and then take out the bolt. And possibly do not unfold without the bolt inside. And if that is the case then it is stock since there is no bolt attached!
Any other ideas i might have missed?
Thanks

Ooh. I’m sorry. I haven’t shot an RPR in a couple years so I’m not positive.

Thanks Jim.

Just to make certain i’m understanding you correctly, the bolt is out of the gun and the stock is in the closed, or unfolded position, and you cannot get it to fold?

Just ran out to my safe this morning before work. I took the bolt out and the stock would still fold and unfold as normal with the push of the button.

I emailed the company and spoke to a rep. She said the same thing. The stock should fold regardless of presence of the bolt in the rifle. She said the stock is extremely tight at the begining and over time it will get easier.
I even applied gun oil to the hinges and anything else i could think of but no result.
We decided to ship it back to the company, but she said the scope and bipod have to come off. My gunsmith had used two Vortex rings and tightened the hell out of the screws. It took a while to get one of the screws off. I have to package it in a brown box with no sign on it. She said it will take them 4 to 6 weeks.
Just lovely. No, it actually sucks. But hay, i have no choice. They are paying for a fedEx two day shipping.
Monday, off it goes.
Thanks for checking your RPR TO confirm it should fold with or without the bolt. Just curious, did you upgrade any parts of your RPR? There’s a company that sells a titanium fluted bolt shroud for the ruger built bolt. It is by Anarchy outdoors. What do you think? Worth switching? They claim it will take away its looseness.

Man, sorry to hear you have to send it back. Hopefully it won’t take that long. I swear as soon as I sent that response yesterday I’ve had this little nagging ringing Bell in the back of my head saying I had some difficulty with some part of that rifle when I first got it out of the box. But I can’t remember what it was exactly and whatever it was quickly resolved itself with little to no help from outside sources.

Right now it’s completely stock. I really don’t shoot this rifle enough. Once I got it sighted Ian and broken in at my local range, I’ve been kind of holding off on it until I can get it out to where I can stretch its legs. I’ve got a good friend who keeps swearing he’s going to take me to a long range thousand plus yards, but every time we start to make plans for that something comes up and he has to cancel.

I do like the rifle though. For the price point it’s pretty darn good. Plus, I wanted my first, and probably only, 338 LM, to be something like this or the Barrett which cost three times as much. Every time I look at an add for just a regular hunting weight rifle in 338 LM, my shoulder cringes.

Yes, they charge more for a 338 LM rifle than any other calibers, with the exception of 416 Barrett or Chytec calibers.
But, I did get my hands on a Christensen Mesa LR 338 LM for under $2k and with the rebate i got a scope and rings out of them as well.

A question for you next time you see your RPR, check and see if the push-button turns!
I received a call from Ruger technical expert with my gun to tell me there’s nothing wrong with the fold/unfold mechanism. He said it was in a “locked” position. I asked how do you “unlock” the push-button? He said, simply “turn” it.
They shipped it back to me. It arrives tomorrow. Cannot wait to try it out. I just can’t believe why I didn’t think of that and went through the hassle of shipping it to the Co. I tell you, sometimes the simplest solution escapes us.
