I know most conversations on here are about ammo workups and guns, yet I have a bow hunt that starts on the 19 of August. I have spent the last three years trying to find the perfect arrow and broadhead. I have used Wac Em fixed 3 blades and have not been impressed. Also used Muzzy trocars and they were underwhelming. Anyone have something they absolutely love and swear by? Just looking for something new that I can get some practice with before the hunt.
G5 Montec M3 are tough and fly well. Not sure if you are going for fixed or expandable. I am wanting to try their Megameats but have not got to them yet.
Fixed or expandable, I don’t have a preference. I have yet to try any G5s. I will have to give both of them a try.
Good evening. If I may suggest Victory Vap shafts with G5 fixed blade . A very effective combination.
Matthews Holon 5.5
55 lbs.
26” Draw length
Haven’t done a bow hunt in quite a few years so I don’t have any recommendations here but looking forward to seeing responses as I think I may take it up again.
How heavy are they? Im shotting between a 300-350 spine right now with a 70lb pull and 28" draw
My tag is a Utah Statewide elk tag, and may end up down in your neck of the woods come early September, any pointers for archery hunting elk in that area?
I have 100g and have about the same specs as you for the arrow.
I bought some Annihilator Broadheads (100/125 gr) last year. I haven’t tried them on game yet but they fly very well. As a side benefit are pretty easy to sharpen if you want to. There are quite a few videos on YT on them and being used on game.
My bow is a 2019 Mathews Traverse
60-70lb weight mod set to 67lbs
32.5” draw length
Full spine length arrows
Keep in mind it’s always a good idea to chat with your local bow shop. They usually have great knowledge.
The key thing to know is that it take x amount of energy for expandable heads to operate correctly. It’s important to make sure you meet the required energy as you don’t want to wound the animal with a malfunctioning expandable.I have a short draw length hence I use fixed blades.
As for the victory vap shafts they are a micro shaft almost a weight forward shaft( don’t quote me on that one I’m stretching my memory) Visit their web page.
I use a 100gr G5 Montec fixed blade. Amazing broad heads.
I did a comparison between GT arrow and the Vap. The end result in my case was theVap had a +5” depth of penetration over GT.
I would suggest Iron Will broad heads. Pricey but worth it
Slicktrick standards 100grn. for me. I shoot a 50 lb Obsession bow. It blows right threw deer. This bow shoots them very well. I also like Magnus Buzzcuts and I had good luck with Swhacker 100gn signature series( Levi Morgan).
What unit? I’ve only lived here for two years so I’m really not that knowledgeable on the area, unfortunately. Still learning it myself.
Look at Iron Will Broad heads. They have a real good story behind how they came about and have performed flawlessly for me and my sons. I believe they were created in Colorado for elk and made in USA. We have taken 3 deer each over the last 3 years and have had zero issues. They are are a almost indestructible (might have accidentally shot one thru a blind and then bounced off a metal post with no signs of damage). I also 100% stand behind the cut on contact principle vs a chisel head that tears. We all have cut our selfs on a razor sharp knife and you don’t even feel it. We have seen the same results shooting deer with these head’s multiple times with them not knowing what happened and they just walk out before tipping
