Auto tricklers and ball powders

I’m sure most folks already know this but for anyone not aware ball powders meter very poorly in an auto trickler, or at least the RCBS Chargemaster Link. Had 3/4 of a pound of H380 I wanted to use up to fire form cases in my Wichita pistol. On average I’d say a full grain flows out the tube once it stops spinning. I noticed right away and adjusted my setting accordingly since I was already safely below max. Basically set it for 37 grains knowing it will fill to 38, my actual intended charge.

Side note, this pistol is the coolest thing since sliced bread! Can’t wait to head to HHC in Wyoming over Father’s Day and then head to Utah for a spike bull hunt with a fellow vet buddy. Sent the scope off to Burris for cleaning and service this morning, it’s over 20 years old and had some debris inside the glass but crystal clear otherwise.

Also quite messy. I’ve done just a couple of Trials but thankfully the ball powder never turned out to be the best powder for my rifles. Therefore I’m sticking with stick if I can

I’m not even sure where it came from. I did also find a couple pounds of recalled IMR 4007 SSC I wasn’t aware was recalled. Maybe that’ll result in something I can use.

Never used ball powder but setting up my auto tricolor to be pretty spot on always include working on the front to back leve of my unit. not sure how the charge master handles It I just got rid of the match master for a V4. You might try moving th level in increments raising the front. This could make it dribble less, (Like this 61yr old at a urinal :face_with_tongue:), after the charge is thrown and It will slow down the rate to unless the charge master adjusts rate finely like the Matchmaster and V4.. Just a thought…

That’s actually something I’m going to tinker with to see if it will tolerate a slight incline front to back. But as I was essentially loading fire forming charges for the 7 IHMSA I opted to send it.
