Backlight chassis update - March 2026

We’re already producing volume of some of the parts and other parts we’re just adding features or tweaking aesthetics, but durability testing and function are all good to go. We will be officially “pencils down” on all parts by March 15.

We added some features that have been highly requested—tool-less adjustment on the cheek piece and length of pull, AND the much requested feature of a lock back for the hinge, so the buttstock isn’t just flopping around loose when it’s folded. We’re doing it with a magnet that latches on to the metal hand screw heads of the tool-less adjustment knobs. Works really well.

In order to add the lock back feature, we had to change length of pull. It’s now 12-14” natively, and then spacers can take it to a ridiculous 15 3/4” in case Shaq wants to start hunting. Previously, it was just 12-15” natively. So this adds more adjustment, but requires spacers if you want to go insanely long on LOP.

We also changed the ergonomics of the grip and thumbs held based on opinions from Shot Show that the thumb shelf was a bit too skinny.

Weight will possibly increase by 2oz depending on the final weight of the grip that we are still working on. During durability testing, I took it kind of to the extreme and we just beefed up several areas with more material than is probably necessary, but to me, being bomb-proof is way more important than a tiny incremental edge on weight. It feels better shooting anyway. I always thought it was just slightly too light before.

Awesome sounds like its really thought out and engineered even as you get closer to launch.

Thanks for the update looking forward to launch.

Al

Super stoked for you guys. This should be an awesome launch. Would the backfire members get first dibs before full launch? Or is it an all out war zone on the website haha and do you have a release date in mind yet. I believe you said some time in April.

With the ergonomics of the grip did you also add an undercut to the trigger guard or mess with those dimensions as well?

Yes - April launch. We’re going to only announce WHEN inventory is going up on the site in Backfire Plus so y’all can get first dibs. We’ll be adding new stock every few days as we make more and putting out times in Plus so y’all will know.

I actually wanted to just sell to Plus first but it kind of creates a technical nightmare with how our website works so this is the best way we could figure out how to do it.

Awesome news, will be ordering for my Tikka and probably for a future build as well. Is the tripod still going to be available with it, and will there be links to magazines or recommendations? The changes sound awesome . Thanks again for the update cant wait.

Any new images?

Jim, is this a family vacation, or a family hunting vacation? If hunting shoot the lights out and will love to hear about it, if not hunting hope yall have a blast enjoying the family vacation.

@backfire What magazines will be compatible with the stock, and will their be an option to buy them with chassis.

Jim,

What calibers do you recommend for the chassis? Will 300’s (300 win mag type) be too large or will 6.5 PRC or lower be the recommendation?

Thanks for the info.

Hey @backfire, do you have a actual date for the chassis release. If you say April 1 I am going to assume Shenanigans.

April 20 is looking likely for the launch date

I guess cartridge depends on what you do with other accessories and muzzle device. I just built a medium contour 7 prc that I’m going to try in the chassis maybe next week to see if the balance feels okay. I’ll report back on how that goes.

Will action screws be included, or purchased separately?

Just in time for my birthday!

Action screws included

Jim, I just picked up a brand new T3x Lite in 6.5 PRC with the expressed purpose of putting your chassis under it so put me down for one in black or gray.
