Banish 30 vs. Backcountry vs. Buck

Seems like there are some new options from Banish (Silencer Central). I wanted to drop my own understanding of the differences between these products down, but if anyone has other insights I would love to hear them.

Banish 30 - $999

  • Length: 7" or 9" (comes with an extension for additional sound reduction)
  • Diameter: 1.5"
  • Weight: 11.2 oz - 14.3 oz with extension
  • Sound reduction: 34 DB
  • Calibers: .17 to .300 Weatherby
  • Thread pitch: 5/8x24
Other notes: With the new options we have, I don’t know why this would still be in the running for a new buyer? The only other advantage I see to this one is that it says “Limited Full Auto Rated” whereas the other two are not rated for full auto at all (as they are intended more for hunting applications). Unless I am missing something…

Banish Backcountry - $1,099:

  • Length: 5.5"
  • Diameter: 1.6" (barely fatter than Banish 30)
  • Weight: 7.8 oz (WHAT?!)
  • Sound reduction: 30 DB (still should bring 30 calibers to below hearing safe levels)
  • Calibers: Up to .300 RUM
  • Thread pitch: You can pick from various choices
Other notes: For only $100 more this seems like a massive upgrade to the normal Banish 30.

Buck 30 by Banish (New) - $699

  • Length: 6.9" (similar to short config of Banish 30)
  • Diameter: 1.54"
  • Weight: 13.8 oz
  • Sound reduction: instead of giving sound reduction they just say: 308 WITH 18" BARREL: 131 DB TO EAR; 6.5 CM WITH 20" BARREL: 132 DB (under ~140 DB = hearing safe)
  • Calibers: .17 - .300 Win Mag
  • Thread pitch: Various selections
  • Other notes: I feel like the only real choices at this point are between this one and the Banish Backcountry. I mean this is $300 less than the normal Banish 30, so I kind of feel like, as a hunter at least, you’d either be looking at this option (standard choice) or the Backcountry option (lightweight/premium package).

Are there other nuances I am missing here? For $699 that Buck 30 looks like a killer deal, and if shedding the extra ounces is important to you, for $400 more you can upgrade to Backcountry. Not even sure why you would consider the Banish 30 at this point…

Buck 30 not titanium and all that comes with that - therefore $300 cost difference. Other SS at that price point. The backcountry is one size and is the 4 db something? It is. 10db is half as quiet Noise is still noise and even though below ear safe for a cartridge does not mean no hearing damage. I am glad to have the option of 7” or 9” and the weight saving option plus titanium. So I do not imagine they are giving you anything for free. Each fills a niche. Cheap vs versatile vs. specialized. Take your pick. I am happy to get the Banish 30 and will order it again for my uses and needs. Not sure why you wouldn’t buy the Banish 30 over the others. I bet they sell more of that than any others.

Shot my Banish Backcountry for the first time today (on an 6.5 PRC) and was less than impressed. Hearing protection was definitely still required. Also shifted my 200 yd zero by almost 10” and would no longer group. It was grouping 1.5” at 200 yds and now about a 6” group with the same ammo. Can’t believe I waited 8 months for this disappointment. I cannot recommend this suppressor.

I’m sorry for your less than stellar experience. I have one in jail. Thats a bummer to hear that it’s not working for you. What ammo were you using? Have you tried other ammo?

Was shooting Nosler 142 Gr Trophy Grade ammo. Plan to try some Hornaday Precision Hunter ELDX next time I can get out but we don’t get very many nice days in North Dakota this time of year so it may be a while.

This was a really helpful take, thank you, Ross. Another thing I found out is that the Banish 30 is “user serviceable” meaning you can take it apart and clean it yourself, but I guess the Backcountry is NOT user serviceable, which is… odd. I’m not sure what they expect you to do if you want to clean it. But anyway, as I have been tempted by the BOGO sale that Silencer Central is running currently, the Banish 30 is looking more and more like the winner.

Not relevant on the bolt gun, but I believe the recommended fire rate is much more reduced on the back country vs the regular banish 30. So if you want to put it on an AR as well that’s something to consider.

I would check out the pew science ratings. The banish series are ok but for $1000 it seems there are much better options. I think the only real selling point at that price point are the benefits of using silencer central and their easy ship to your house process.
