Has anyone got one of the new banish backcountry suppressors? I know it’s a bigger diameter than the banish 30 and I was wondering if anyone had problems seeing other through the scope with low mounts.
Good question. I have one coming shortly so I’ll be able to answer that. I don’t remember what the scope height was like on the one I tested previously.
It’d look kinda funny, but you could test it by wrapping toilet paper around the muzzle to match the Backcountry’s thickness and see if it’d intrude in your scope’s view. I wouldn’t think it would.
Jim do you prefer silencer central or silencer shop.
I have four in the ATF we’ll get to it when we get to it que, that I bought through Silencer Shop. Several of my preferred shops have the Silencer Shop Kiosk in their shops and I found it painless to purchase.
One is a Ruger Silent-SR to use one my Ruger American Go Wild in 22 WMR, Tikka T1X, and Ruger Mark IV lite. 2nd is a Daniel Defense SG-30TI for my Seekins SP-10 .308, The 3rd is a OSS HX-QD 556K for my Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Pro, and the last is a AB Raptor for my Fierce Carbon Rogue in 7 PRC. Who knows when they will show up.
I prefer Silencer CENTRAL by a wide margin. I won’t use Silencer Shop again. Silencer Shop sends the suppressor to your FFL after the wait period, so they don’t really know when it has gone through the ATF to get your stamp. This caused me an extra 5 month wait last time I ordered through them.
I am using Silencer Central. OnX elite has some benefits I guess. Free financing for 6 months. Free trust set up. Maybe they always have that. But the set up was easy. Waiting for October - Maybe earlier? Oct. is 9 months.
I doubt you will see it unless you have low magnification. I had a Swaro 2-12 and I could see the muzzle at 2x, but not at 3x.
Most suppressors say they are multi caliber for anything smaller than the rated caliber. So a Banish 30 handles 30 caliber and less, meaning you could even use it on either an AR-10 or an AR-15 if you wanted to, but is there an advantage in having a silencer specifically fit for the caliber you are shooting? Like a Banish 22, Banish 223, and Banish 30 for 22 LR, .223 REM, and .308 WIN respectively? Or just stick with the 30 and use it on everything?
The closer the diameter of the can is to the actual bullet diameter the quieter it will be.
I purchased a Banish 30 at the Dallas Safari Club back in 2022. Took almost a year to get it back to me. They also gave me an end cap that I can put on that is for 6.5. I wonder if they have end caps for more calibers. As for the Backcountry I could check to see if my friend bought that one. He bought one that will fit his .338 Lapua. Not sure if it is the same, but I can have him put it on and see if there was an issue with the scope.
@rosskruse I used the OnX elite benefits as well through Silencer Central. Got approved 7/3 and had applied 9/27/22 so mine was a couple days past 9 months. Looks like I should receive my banish 30 next week finally!! Now just waiting on my Banish Backcountry to be approved
I got notice of approval this week and now waiting for sheriff notification and shipping to me. It was a few weeks faster than I expected. Might even have it for whitetail rut hunt.
Ug. Wish I would have known sooner… I used Silencer Shop–Dead Air Nomad 30–bought it back in March. Just found out that it has been sitting for a couple months at my FFL, so I called them, and they did not keep up their license with the ATF for silencers (I guess it’s like 500/year?). They do have it in their possession but can’t do the next steps with me. Anyway, now I have to get them to form 3 it and have it sent to another FFL who is actually up-to-date. What damn mess. Will only use Silencer Central in the future. I just ordered Banish 22 and did all the paperwork/fingerprints-by-mail a couple weeks ago, they very quickly had a remote screen sharing with me to complete the other ATF forms online. So much better in terms of customer service so far.
ouch. that sucks
@rosskruse When did you order your suppressor since it just got approved? @backfire when did you order yours and did it arrive yet? I ordered my banshies backcountry back in march so just trying to gauge how the long the process actually took for you.
I kicked it all off on Jan 12. My bro kicked it off Jan 5 and his has shipped to local store this week. Mine is complete but waiting for sheriff - so not shipped yet.
So maybe 6 weeks more to complete for you?
Mine is in jail. So stoked for it though. On a side note, any thoughts on the likelihood that suppressors get deregulated. They truly can be categorized as a safety device. I mean isn’t it kind of silly that I can walk out of a shop with a gun and ammo, but I have to wait >9 months to get a safety device?
I felt your pain before and still feel it these days.
As someone else once said, the whole purpose of the NFA is to keep us from purchasing these things. So being silly, absurd, difficult and frustrating is all actually part of the design.
It amazes me that in other countries you can walk in and get a suppressor Off the Shelf at a local store without any difficulty at all, just walk straight out the door. But to get a gun you have to wait weeks if not months and get permitted and permitted and permitted and licensed. Yet here in this country we are the exact opposite.
Not sure if you’re aware but back when Trump was first in office and we had a republican Congress there was a bill introduced to take suppressors off of the nfa. However, as soon as the Vegas shooting happened that bill died a ugly death before even being heard in committee. If we couldn’t get it through with a republican-led house, senate, and president, the chances of getting anything like that through now are basically zero.
Yeah. It’s such a shame. A lot of nonsensical things about our country. Wish we could all get on board with making this a better place, which would include letting me buy a suppressor off the shelf, lol.
Nonsensical indeed.
Later in the day after I posted above I recalled back after the Vegas shooting how one of the gun control advocates went on the media and was talking about how if the hearing protection act would have been in effect, no one would have known where the Vegas shooter was and he would have kept shooting and shooting and shooting.
About like putting someone who believes only in leeches and VapoRub in charge of the country’s Medical Care.
