Barrel contours

Looking at going for heavier barrel contour for my backcountry rifle build doing everything super light weight so I can get a heavier contour barrel. Any suggestions?

Don’t go to heavy I did that with my 7rem it’s front heavy so not great balance. I’f I could I’d do sendero (prolly spelled it wrong) fluted

This is definitely one of those situations where either discussing things with a gunsmith or Barrel manufacturer beforehand can go a long way.

Different manufacturers can use different specifications but call them the same thing. I too have a fluted Sendero Barrel and it is noticeably thicker than an actual Remington 700 Sendero I have sitting in the safe. Not massively, but noticeably and definitely measurably.

I was watching a YouTube video a few weeks ago from a barrel manufacturer and they were going over their contours. They noted that some of their more hunting style Contours look pretty big and thick, but that changes significantly once you start chopping several inches off the end of the barrel.

The first Barrel I purchased I just listened to what everyone on the internet said and got a medium palma. From that particular company a medium Palma is a big thick thing and this gun while accurate with some loads, is almost impossible to take out into the woods due to it being so darn heavy. The second time I ended up contacting the manufacturer beforehand and told them what I was looking to do and they offered some sound advice. I was looking to do a direct Tikka replacement, and keep it in the factory stock while also having enough meat on the barrel to have it properly threaded at 5/8.
