I noticed in a recent video (This Gun Can’t Miss) that Jim was using a MagnetoSpeed RifleKuhl barrel cooling fan. I’m curious what other people use. When I was looking into it, there only seemed to be that one option, and frankly, the reviews of it suck, as well as the design, other than it’s small profile. So I designed my own fan using a USB powered laptop fan and a custom 3d printed housing. I sell it on my website, eBay and Amazon. It’s called the Precision Cooler Pro. (https://www.ballisticsbrothers.com/shop/barrel-cooler/precision-cooler-pro/) Mine puts out 2.79 CFM. I’m working on an even larger version that will put out 11.9 cfm.
Jim, I sent you one to test out. See what you think. Anyone else that would like one, use code BACKFIRE on my website for 15% off.
That’s pretty cool! I made something similar using the rechargeable air mattress pump and high temp tubing. The thing I dislike about it, is it’s so dang loud. But it pushes a lot of air. It “claims” 400 liters per min / 14Cfm.
I’d definitely be interested in the one you’re working on that pushes more air.
Nice work! Overall I’m not too happy with the one I bought as it’s not putting out enough air.
I actually bought this one because we’re working on making a version of our own and I wanted to see what the fancy/expensive one would do. Yours looks great! Hope it sells really well for you.
I’d love to see some scientific testing, results with these things.
I’ve got one like Jim has. Last week took it to the range with a 28 Nosler for some load development testing. Would shoot three shots, not quickly, then let the gun cool with the muzzle pointed to the sky, and the fan in for 15 minutes before shooting another three shot string
Today tried the exact same protocol minus the fan. I don’t think there’s a difference. The gun feels perfectly cool after 15 minutes without the fan also.
I chose 15 minutes because I tested it 10 minutes and the gun was still noticeably warm, not hot. I wanted it completely cooled down before shooting again.
Should note that the fan doesn’t fit this gun really well. I can’t wedge the nozzle into the chamber. It’s just sitting there loosely.
Shoot. It arrived but the USB cord seems to have snapped in shipping. It’s weird. It looks cut but the package was undamaged.
This is a Photo of the Ballistics Brothers Barrel fan. I haven’t tried it yet, but have discovered that accuracy on my Bergara MGLite in 6.5prc after about 5 rounds you need to cool the barrel or the accuracy deteriorates rapidly.
I am having the same experience with the Bergara CURE carbon barrel (Crest Carbon). 5 shots are sub MOA then fliers. I would love to read a review of that Barrel fan when you’ve given it a go.
Interesting. I test all these fans before I package them up just to make sure they aren’t making nay funny noises or anything. So yours was working when I packaged it. Oh well, either way, I have sent you another one.
Maybe the extreme heat during shipping? That’s weird.
