It seriously looks like my 30-06 is cooked so I am trying to figure out which rifle to get to replace it as my elk rifle
Beretta BRX1 Carbon in 300 win mag or
Fierce Rival CT in 7PRC
I know the Rival is about $700 more, but is it worth the extra scratch?
BRX is sub 1 MOA and Rival is .5
Win Mag ammo is everywhere, 7PRC isn’t.
Rival has Carbon stock, BRX is Polymer
Rival is ~6.5 lbs at 24”, BRX is 6.7
Rival has better trigger, hands down
I am heavily leaning to the BRX since the price is so good compared. I can replace the trigger.
What is am not sure about is 300 win mag vs 7PRC since the 7 is ballistically better. I am at max 400 yard hunter in good conditions.
Should I pony up the extra for the Rival? Is the Beretta too loud?
I hadn’t considered the Sako S20, primarily since I saw the 90 and its price tag. I was wondering about the rail on the BRX1 but I hadn’t seen anyone mention it.
I am open to any sub MOA 7PRC or 300 Win Mag, but I am looking for something sort of light, when scoped and all comes in around under 10lbs but will still weigh down the recoil energy of the round. I am also looking for a modern stock, perferably Carbon Fiber, and a Carbon Fiber barrel. The Bergara MGLite would be perfect if $1000 less. Springfield WayPoint 2020 also would be great if in 7PRC or 300 Win Mag.
This is why I was leaning to either the Beretta or Fierce. However, maybe I should just buy once cry once with the Fierce.
I have the Fierce Carbon Rogue in 7prc. It is scoped with a Vortex Viper PST Gen2 5-25x50. I find it to be a .5 MOA.
First photo is sighting in the scope. Flyer was bore site.
I am seriously leaning towards the fierce rifle now. Maybe tomorrow it will something else. Do you miss not having the adjustable comb? In your mind, is the 90 degree grip and the comb worth the $300 up charge?
Ben,
I just did my background check on my Beretta BRX1 this past Friday.
The reason I asked how much you would be paying for your BRX1 was because with Tax I paid $1,338.94 for my Beretta BRX1. I bought mine from Gunzonedeals. I also have the SAKO S20 in 300 WM. I would highly recommend it as well. I also have their TRG 42 (But it costs a lot more than their S20). Anyhow, that is my two cents and good luck in your search.
This is how it works on their website. Search for the rifle, Then they give you an option of “Email for price.” Then they will email you the lowest price they can offer you with a link to the deal. You click on the link in the email and it will take you to the item with the lowest price and I believe the price quote is good for 24 hours. Just check on their website for all these other recommendations and see if they have it and whether or not you can “Email for price.” One other site that you could request a price quote is the Scopelist.com, but they still can not match Gunzonedeals.
I hadn’t looked outside the premier line, but the Crest Carbon is has all the features and I saw one under $2000. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. PS - I love Bergara so this is the pole sitter at the moment.
I’ll be curious to see how the Crest Carbon reviews shake out. I love that stock. It fits my hand perfectly, but I kind of think it’s too light of a stock for 300 WM and 7 PRC and has led to just “ok” groups from what I’ve seen. I bet it would be killer in lower recoiling cartridges. Again, just second hand thoughts from reviews I’ve seen.
I did have a chance to hold the Sako S20. I’ve heard nothing but praise for the accuracy, but you do get the heavier weight. I personally didn’t love the plastic feeling of the stock, but it’s been on sale for $1,000 at EuroOptic and I don’t think you can find anything else as good for that price.
I shoot suppressed and have a MDT bipod. My rifle weight with the Crest Carbon would be near 9 to 9.5 lbs. I should be good with that weight to be sub MOA to 1MOA with the 7PRC
Whatever path I go down, I’ll update my accuracy results.
I am 70 years old. I have been shooting for 60 plus years. Adjustable combs and upright pistol grips are a modern adaptation of our older style rifle stocks. Quite frankly I shoot just fine with what I have and doubt the new stocks would have any bearing on my shooting ability.
Found a deal I was comforatble with on the Bergara B14 Crest Carbon chambered in 7mm PRC and bought it before I changed my mind again. Compared to the Fierce Rival it is $650 cheaper for an extremely similar rifle in the ways I care about (no Bix Andy trigger, but I’ll never know the difference). Can’t find a bad review anywhere (minus Jim’s mortaring section in his video). Should weigh in at 9.5lbs fully decked which is right where I wanted it. If it comes this Friday and my FFL calls for me to pick it up, I’ll hit the range on Saturday to see if it delivers.
