Bergara Action and Barrel Options

Now that Bergara is offering barreled actions, I’m looking for some insight.

My original plan was to buy a Bergara Wilderness Sierra (currently $999 at Cabela’s) and, if I wanted to later, drop it into a chassis for a lightweight hunting rifle.

What has me scratching my head is that the #4 contour barreled action is listed at $1,400. Am I missing something, or are they essentially charging an extra $400 to remove the stock?

Is there any difference in quality, fit, or features between the complete rifle and the barreled action, or are they basically the same action and barrel?

I’m planning to chamber it in 7mm PRC and load it down to offset some of the recoil. I’d appreciate any firsthand experience or insight.

Go to scope list, and buy the barreled action, best deal going. And if you want a factory stock you can always pick one up on eBay for cheap in the $100 range. You can get a Bergera factory trigger off eBay too in that $30 range, or buy any Remington 700 trigger aftermarket etc. you’ll need bottom metal too, unless you buy a factory stock off eBay that someone includes there original bottom metal. Otherwise on the Bergera website they have a long action bottom metal 1/2 the price anywhere on the web for AICS mags. So as you see even shopping your butt off, sometimes the build ends up being a lot more then just buying the completed rifle….

Short answer is that the Wilderness Sierra is a B14 action and the barrelled actions are Premier. That’s your price difference.

Yep, Ben is right. Their barreled actions are the Premier series actions and barrels. In my experience, Bergara’s steel-barreled Premier series is WAY WAY better than the standard b14 series. The accuracy is very noticeably improved, and the actions feel quite nice. Worth it.

Thanks guys. Bergara’s naming catalog is very confusing. That makes a lot more sense. I think ill try one of those premier deals.

I have the #5.5 contour barrel out of the b-14 wilderness terrain. Very heavy barrel, #4 should be better. The action is very smooth and good accuracy with my 6.5prc. No complaints with the b-14 If you are pinching Pennie’s with the purchase. Nothing wrong with getting the rifle and removing the stock. Obviously, if you are okay with the extra 400 bucks for better action it’s probably worth it.

@backfire when can we expect to see a chassis in bergara long action?

It’s available now. Bergara uses a Remington 700 action. So you can get a Remington 700 long action inlet of the chassis and drop your rifle right in with two screws.
