Bergara B-14 Hunter FSP 7mm PRC

Hello. Has anyone shot this configuration? Looks like it could be a winner or maybe not? Too lite? 6.3 lbs. Is 22” too short for a PRC barrel?
Thanks!

I don’t have the specs right in front of me but that sounds very similar to what my element is in terms of weight as well as Barrel length.

I run mine with a suppressor in a fairly chunky scope. With that, I think it’s a very manageable gun. It’s still definitely a magnum. However, I’m not cringing to pull the trigger on it and I’ve never had a sore shoulder or anything even after a long day at the range with it.

Barrel length is an interesting question. When the 7prc was first introduced, a lot of the experts were saying that it was perfect for shorter barreled guns, it did not suffer significant velocity loss. Personal opinion, I think that’s very load dependent. My gun will not shoot a 168 or 175 class bullet anywhere near box velocity for factory ammo or book velocity for handloads. That’s even with me giving it a 60 ft per second handicap because of it shorter length. However, it will absolutely shoot 150 and 160 grain bullets right where they’re supposed to be in terms of box velocity, no hand loads. And even one case of that it’s actually meeting what the box says a24 inch gun should do.

I don’t think I’d pick this platform for a 7 prc. Older stock lines will have lots of muzzle jump and isn’t really suited to longer range shooting which is the whole point of 7 prc.

The Wilderness Sierra is only a couple hundred more and would be a much better platform.

Can’t speak to that particular Bergara, but I will say this:

The 7PRC is best between 8.5 and 9.5 lbs for recoil management. It is a thumper, but put the Backstop on it and a 3-18 or 4-20 scope and you will be fine.

I shot my 45-70 last Saturday, went through a box. Then shot my 7PRC. No exageration, in comparison the 7PRC felt like shooting a .223 after that 45-70. Mine weight 9lbs and has the Backstop.

Thanks for all your help! I just can’t decide between the Ruger Go Wild and the Bergara Sierra. The Ruger is a true 24" barrel while the Sierra is 22". And I already picked up the Ultradyne Apollo and the Athlon Helios in 4-20X.
