I recently got a super sweet Bergara MG Lite in 7mm PRC.
It uses a 300RUM magazine but it feeds like crap. Second or third round gets jammed most times, last round wont pick up. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hey Jesse! Have you listened to the most recent episode of the podcast? I talked about exactly this gun in exactly this cartridge.
What we’re seeing is the rounds in the magazine are being slammed forward during recoil into the front of the magazine and it’s dinging the tips of the ammo. Perhaps that’s why they won’t feed as well?
Sorry for the panic post. After going from a Ruger American gen 1 to this rifle I think I expected it to be perfect out of the box.
I called the XLR customer service and they were very helpful. The chassis has build in cam mechanism for adjusting the mag seating height. After adjusting that mag height I tuned the mag lips. Now it feeds perfect!
After listening to the podcast about the tips getting dinged I am considering adding some little rails on each side. Hopefully this will restrain the rounds by the shoulder.
My rifle seems to really like the Federal shooting the ELD-X bullets, I am getting 2960FPS.
What kind of accuracy are you seeing?
Are the tips being damaged when you put three in the mag and mag feed?
I have about a hundred rounds through mine so far, I have been mostly single feeding.
Hornady Precision Hunter: 5X 5shot groups, 1.38" mean, 0.22 STD Dev
Federal Premium ELD-X: 4X 5shot groups, 1.34" mean, 0.37 STD Dev
After shooting these groups I found that my action screws were a bit loose. I will do some more shooting on Monday and see it I can improve on my results with properly torqued screws.
Wondering if the 7prc has problems with detachable magazines.
Took my Element to the range today to try a new scope. I’ve never hunted with this gun only shot at the range and almost have always done nothing but feed single from the top. It does beautiful with that and gave me some awesome groups today with the new scope. Then I decided to try to fill up the magazine, detachable box, and see how things went
Not well in a nutshell. Difficult if not impossible to fit the magazine to full capacity. Rounds also nose diving into the front of the magazine. I contacted seekins. They got back to me very very fast. They recommended that I stagger the rounds with the lowest round seated the furthest back, the middle round a little farther forward, and the top round even further forward. That allows me now to fill the magazine to capacity but every now and then I still run into nose diving problems.
Sure enough looked at my lrx bullets and the ones that were getting jammed forward now have flattened tips that are rough.
My element in 308 uses a standard Magpul magazine and it works perfect. The 7prc uses a proprietary Magazine made by Seekins.
There’s a good bit of online talk that one of the things that killed the wssm cartridges were problems with feeding.
Interesting. I know the 7PRC mags (AICS at least) are the same as the 300RUM. For my Bergara Crest Carbon I received the 3.850 mag and have had zero issues feeding or flattened tips. Do you have the 3.715 (I think this is the standard) or the 3.850?
Are those inner diameter measurements? If so mine’s bigger than both of those at 3.96.
As best as I can tell from online researching, they are not aics, they are completely proprietary to seekins
Not sure if it’s inner or outer, it what’s listed on the mag.
I didn’t have access to a chronograph when I set up my Ballastics App so I guesstimated at the muzzle velo based on all that I have read on the 7PRC ammo - which is mostly 175gr bullet. I also found that the Federal ELDX shot the best groupings (I tried Hornady Hunter, Hornady Outfitter & the Federal Terminal Ascent as well).
I am actually stunned that my guesstimate was as close as it is to your data - I guessed at 2950FPS.
I was centering targets at 400, 500, 600, 700 & 800 yards so I figured my guesstimate was good, but to be within 10FPS is a surpirse.
Any updates on this rifle?
A bunch of guntubers are posting content on YouTube about a recent event with Bergara where they shot this rifle out to over a mile. Didn’t hear anyone mention the feeding issues but you know how reviews can go online.
I got the MDT 7PC mag and it is world better that the accurate mag that it comes with. It seemed like it needed to be broken in with 50 or so rounds to remove some of the burrs. I have two more on backorder!
I was getting ready to post on here and found this thread. I have the Premiere HMR 6.5 PRC and absolutely love it but it will not feed at all from the Mag. I contacted Bergara they said it was a mag issue and sent me another one. Same thing. Yesterday I ran 60 rounds through it and it was awesome as long as I single fed it. I tried the mag 2 times and it was a miserable fail both times.
I looks to me the mag is way too deep in the rifle. when it feed I have to beat it to get it in and after shooting the eject brass looks like I took a file and ran it down the sides.
How do I change the depth of the mag? Bergara did not share that info with me. As much as I love this rifle and shooting it is such a pleasure. 8inch targets at 400yards all day long. I cannot live with spending that kind of money on a rifle that will not feed no matter how much I like it.
You are looking to make the magazine seat lower, or higher?
For lower, you can either file down the magazine catch on the rifle, or file down the part of the magazine where the catch locks in. Also, if the top of the feed ramps are binding on the bottom of the action, you may need to remove material from the feed ramps also.
I don’t know how to make it go higher without adding material to something but perhaps someone else does.
You also could potentially replace the magazine catch with one that’s more appropriate, fitted better.
But as much as you spent on that thing I would consider sending it back to the factory and have them fix it
I believe it needs to go higher. I opened up the lips on the mags and seemed help to when I did it but when I go to the range it did not. It seems like a really sharp angle it has to make in order to get into the chamber. It also binds with the round under it. I mentioned it is raking the brass really bad. I have ordered another brand of AICS mag to see it that helps it, if not, I will have 3 mags that dont work.
