I just wanted to come on here and say that I was able to get one of the first 7mm Prc’s from Bergara in the squared crest line and boy am I impressed. I am only 40 rounds into shooting the gun but boy it likes the Hornady ELDX Right out of the box it is shooting 1/2 MOA or better. After a sighting it in we took it out to 600 yards where it was putting rounds in a 3” group. Using a magneto speed we clocked it at 2816 and using Kestrel custom curve for the eldx was hitting with in 3” of center at targets of 200,300,400,500 and 600. I have been looking for gun to take elk hunting this fall and I was lucky to grab ahold of this one. If any of you are looking like I was for the last year I can say this thing checked almost every box I was wishing for. I am writing this for those of you who are like me wondering how this gun will shoot and can’t find any info on the web.
Absolutely fantastic to hear. I really like that gun.
What is the barrel length? Seems 200fps off of the 24” factory specs for that round?
The Bergara Squared Crest comes with a 22" Barrel. This was something i was looking for to carry with a suppressor.
Good looking rifle!
It only comes in 20" and a couple of calibers are 22" and MSRP is a cool $1,999, which is affordable (won’t break the bank
)
Congratulations, sharp looking rifle!
I hope they roll out some more in different calibers. Would love to see one in 280 Ackley.
Bergera dropped the 280AI as a cartridge after the 2019 model year and honestly I have considered them as an option for me as much since. I talked to a rep and the said they didn’t sell as well but I’ve never seen one on the shelf even after trying to order one of their premier line rifles in one. So I kinda feel like the never made many to begin with. Most of the 280AI community is pretty hardcore about promoting companies that support the cartridge with their dollars and most had a similar experience with finding Begara options in 280AI.
So I wouldn’t hold my breath on a reintroduction from them as much as I’d love to see it become a thing. If Browning stocks fit me I would’ve bought one of their offerings but that’s a lot of money to spend on a factory rifle that will immediately need a stock replacement.
Wasn’t aware that they had offered one in the past.
Well that sucks but is isn’t unheard of/unexpected.
Yeah they did but only in the Premier line. They offered it in the Highlander and the Mountain Rifle only lines I believe. There were 2 or 3 options for it. They all had the slower 1:9 twists as well. Fine for most factory offerings but limited with monometal bullets IMO.
thanks, that is exactly what I’m looking for and when I saw that it was out, it went to the top of my list. It probably won’t be this year. I’m a lefty but have several right handed guns now that begara has answered the one wish ( 7mmprc) the next one would the left handed bolt. I think it is the do it all gun, long range prc, elk hunting and everything else North America can get in my sites. thanks for sharing Greg
Has anyone else purchased a Bergara Crest? How has your experience been with it so far?
@backfire did you ever solve the issue from the video or figure out why the bolt kept getting stuck? Has anyone else had this same issue?
I still need to send mine to Bergara. Not a widespread issue. I just got unlucky.
I have one and have ran 300 plus rounds through it and hunting in 3 states with it and have had zero issues. It has been very reliable and the only issue I have had is one of the QD cups came loose and I had to reinstall it. They have what I think is an aluminum block it threads into and I added a little blue Lock tight.
The gun has traveled quite a few miles and the zero with a Vortex razor lht has held and the vortex geo ballistics has been dead on thru 70 degrees of temp swing and 8,000 feet of elevation change. I looked for over a year for an elk/deer gun and I am very pleased with the gun. I modified mine and added a arca rail to the bottom.
That is great to hear. I am very highly considering one of these guns in 7 prc sometime this upcoming spring. I just got a smoking good deal on the vortex razor lht scope so I am also glad that you have that and have had really good luck with it on the crest.
Okay sounds good. Are you a big fan of the Bergara crest besides that one minor issue? Is it worth buying in your opinion?
Most definitely. It’s probably the hottest gun on the market right now. It’s fantastic.
