Best Options for Selling Used Firearms

I need to sell some of the firearms which I don’t use and since I have never done this before, I wanted to ask the community what they think are best options (local gun store, GunBroker.com, etc) to do this.

It’s tough. A lot of scams on gunbroker and most shops crush you on trade in. We have one near us in Tn that only takes 15% on consignment, but doesn’t seem like they get a lot of traffic. Maybe we can get a classifieds page on this group?

Sportman’s uses either their retail price or blue book of gun values as a reference so you know that much at least. They also give 5 or 10% more if you take a store card. So not the worst and probably as good as you could get other than dealing with a stranger which has its issues.

That’s great to know, I had no idea sportsman’s took used guns. Thanks!

I took a few in and walked out with some new ones!

RangeUSA does something similar. They take your used firearms on a “trade-in” basis and right now they are also providing you an extra 10%. This is for in store credit or they give you a gift card which you can use at their online store.

Neat concept. We will give you money but you can only spend it at our store.

Sportsman will give you cash but if you take a gift card you get more. You have a choice.

I find this practice of giving more value for trades vs just cash is common at local pawn shops as well, so not only sportsman’s/online. Also depends on what it is. For example I had a CZ 527 which they don’t make anymore, those guns used to be like 600 bucks new but now they sell for 1,200-1,500 and you can get decent price for them at many pawn and gun shops, especially in good condition. For example, I was able to trade in for a Ruger Hawkeye Predator in .223 which would have been 1,100 or so if I was just buying it outright. Considering the original purchase of the CZ was almost half that, it felt like a pretty good deal to me. Helps to know what is in demand and who is buying. I always like to ask around at different shops to see what their practices and preferences are.

guns.com makes it pretty easy as well, although not sure on value
