Bolt Action 22LR Recommendations?

Hey group,

I’m in the market for a 22lr bolt gun. I have been looking at the Tikka T1X and the Bergara BMR & BMR-X. I’m looking for a hunting/plinking 22 and NOT a HEAVY bench gun. With that being said I’m pretty picky when it comes to rifles on accuracy. If they are not accurate I will move off them lol.

I have held a CZ 457 and just wasn’t impressed with stock and action like I was the Bergara. Haven’t got my hands on the T1X but a T3X 308 is my primary deer gun. Any suggestions yall have?

Some of the deal breakers are:

  • Must have a threaded barrel
  • Not a ruger. I have just had to many people have cycling issues lately out of their rimfires
  • Not too heavy. I think anything over 7 pounds is a bit much for a hunting/plinking rimfire
  • I guess we will say under $800 MSRP since prices vary depending on area and if ya know a dealer or not

I’ve been looking at the WALTHER HAMMERLI FORCE B1 COMBO .22LR/.22 WMR BOLT ACTION lately. YouTuber “22 Plinkster” just did a review not to long ago on one. I have the Bergera BMR in 17 w/Steel barrel and I like it, not to heavy. (Heard the carbon fiber barrels are hit and miss w/Bergera. But if your in that up to $800 have you looked at the CZ 457 Royal or Variant models?

I really like my cz457 with carbon fiber stock. I also have a couple Bergara B14’s that are great. I have too limited of experience with the Tikka T1x to really compare it to the others.

Are you talking about the one with the Manners MDR stock? If so that’s a sweet looking gun and I have been around 1 or 2. They feel good but they are out of budget for my rimfire use.

Oh yeah the BMR’s are a good weight I think. I’ll have to look into the Walther. I’m not sure how many rifles they have made over the years that were good. Walther made some great pistols, I just haven’t heard anyone brag on their rifles. I’m gonna check this video out though. Thanks!

To me it’s a toss up between CZ457 and T1X. Both seem to have good actions, are accurate, and well made. I don’t think you could go wrong with either.

I have both a t1x as well as a 457. However my T1 is actually in 17 hmr.

For going out into the woods with a gun I definitely prefer the T1. It’s much more lighter and nimble. The CZ is definitely more accurate, although it should be noted that I’m shooting match ammo through it where is the T1 is always shooting a hunting round

Just saw this. I have a CZ 457 VARMINT. It weighs in at 7.25 pounds without my scope and Can. If it weren’t such a tack driver, I would never recommend the weapon. I just don’t miss with it (often). One thing is for sure when I do miss it’s 100% me. This may be the best 22 I have ever had. I’m 70 years old so I’ve had many 22’s. Good luck with your search, Thomas
