Bolt will not close on reloaded ammo

I need help I’m new to reloading I made a batch of 7 prc bullets and when I went to shoot my bolt would not close does anyone know why?

Rees, did you full length size them or neck / bushing size the case?

Probably didnt size them completely. Take an empty case, or pull one of those, dump the powder, take out the primer. See if it will chamber as an empty. If it does, you might have had your bullet seating length too long. More likely, you probably didn’t fully resize the case. Resize it and try to chamber it, if it wont go, adjust your seating die, and keep doing the process till it chambers. We have all done it, part of the learning curve.

adjust your sizing die. sorry about that.

We could really use a few more details about what exactly you did as far as brass, bullets, process, etc.

Was this using new brass, or did you resize the brass?

Like others have said, it sounds like your brass is too long (you’ll need to trim them) or possibly seated the bullet too far out.

Getting one of these case gauges can help verify case length when you resize.

I had a really weird situation recently where I fired my brass in one barrel > fl resized (Redding dies) all of my brass > changed my barrel > tried to chamber my brass but it wouldn’t chamber. I even full length resized again but it still wouldn’t chamber. After a ton of digging through forums I found that most likely it was the very bottom of my brass called the “web” that was fire formed to my first barrel dimensions and was not being sized down by my fl sizing die. I ended up purchasing a 270 win fl sizing die (Lee) which has the same case dimensions at the bottom as a 308 case, but wouldn’t bump the shoulder if fl sizing. This worked like a dream, and I could chamber all the cases after this operation. Not sure why my Redding 308 fl sizing dies wouldn’t size the bottom of the case, but it wouldn’t touch it. Anyway, my situation was really rare from what I read but it can happen. Some people throw away their brass when changing barrels, but I couldn’t bring myself to toss nice Lapua brass if I didn’t have to.
