As the title suggests, I’m looking for a rangefinding binocular with as many useful features as possible for $1,000 or less.
Over the next year or so, I’d like to start practicing with the possibility of participating in an NRL Hunter match. I’m not looking to compete or climb the ranks—I’d mainly like to improve my hunting skills and have something to do besides shooting paper at 100 yards. Disclaimer done…
It seems like a good rangefinding binocular would be a pretty critical piece of equipment for this type of shooting. I definitely don’t need a $3,000–$4,000 binocular for what I’m trying to accomplish. Decent glass, an accurate laser, and ideally some way to integrate with a ballistic calculator would be awesome.
@backfire is your review of the Burris LRF’s still valid 2 years later? If you have anything laying around the shop that you are looking to sell ease let me know.
I used the Sig Sauer KILO6K HD’s in a long range shooting class and they were nice. Fast ranges, good glass, and compact size. I’m debating between these and the Vortex Ranger 3000 HD.
I looked at the Sig Sauer and I am still interested in them. There are some nasty reviews in a few places that sound like QC issues. However, it sounds like sig will swap them out if you buy them new.
The Seiners look nice. I wish I could get my hands on a pair to try them out but im keeping an eye out.
There are a pair of the Burris LRCs in my area for sale used at a good price as well. They have a transferable warranty, which is nice.
I know scopelist/EuroOptic is really good on returning things so you could try those Steiner’s, I have several Steiner optics and and feel on a blind test you wouldn’t tell a difference between them and my Leica and Swarovski, maybe at twilight/daybreak you might see a difference, I had my daughter who doesn’t know brands or $$$ paid look through my Meopta, Steiner, leica’s and Swarovski, and ask her which one she thought look the most clear, she like my Meopta’s the best..
I own a few high end binoculars already but none of them have the rangefinding feature, which is the primary reason im looking for something new. As far as integrated ranging is concerned, is there a budget king that is accurate and possibly works with a ballistics computer? If that is the Steiner then i am happy to try them out. NRL Hunter is designed to put the shooter in a tough spot, so fast, stable, accurate ranging is the most important aspect for me.
It’s a weird time for RFB’s. Image stabilization has changed the game but there’s very limited options until next year. I’ve seen a lot of guys actually go back to separate binos and rangefinders just so they can use image stabilization. I think the complete packages are coming but I don’t know what option I’d go with right now. Budget or high end.
Sounds like you need to Leica Geovid pros. Which is the route I went… as it basically has applied ballistics integrated into it, and does it all… ended selling a few things to bite the bullet to get them… but was worth it
I won’t need image stabilization. I’m planning to glass off a tripod with a bag or mount on top. Again, I’m just looking for a decent budget option that works well for the basics. I wont be using these enough to justify the huge spend of the premium line. Plus, if i spend $3k on binoculars my wife will be hunting ME with them.
