Hey all! New to posting in this forum - was looking into building a rifle to play with in some NHL/PRS type arena - hopefully translate some skills over to hunting. Was looking at perhaps a Tikka T3 short action and putting it in say an MDT chassis vs. going with a Sako S20 precision as is -probably in 6.5cr because they don’t make a 6cr that I see but the 6.5 would transfer more to hunting I suppose - any thoughts on either and what beginner to intermediate scope would you suggest! Welcome! Great question.
Contrary to popular belief, 6.5 Creedmoor is very competitive in PRS, so don’t feel like you have to have a 6mm. And, your barrel will last longer in a 6.5 creedmoor. Also, choosing 6.5 Creedmoor opens you up to NRL Hunter matches as well.
The Sako s20 precision is a fantastic gun and is a good hybrid hunting/precision rifle. If you want something versatile, it’s a good option. You can bet on it being very accurate.
If you want less versatility but more of a purpose built rifle, then a Tikka build in an MDT chassis could be a great fit. This would allow you to slowly build on the rifle over time. But it’s going to cost more than just getting an S20.
Another option is the Bergara Premier Competition. It’s available in 6.5 creedmoor and 6 gt. Gives you a great chassis, an accurate barrel, and you’re ready to play. But would put you in open class for NRL Hunter.
For the scope, if you’re wanting to spend under $1k, I can’t recommend the Athlon Helos enough. I love it for the price and you can get it even cheaper with coupon code PLUS on BackfireShop.
Another good option for a scope would be the Element Optics Titan. I absolutely love this scope for a competition rifle, but it’s not good for hunting because it doesn’t have locking turrets.

I’d tack on the Aero Solus to that list; its a bit heavy but that isn’t a bad thing for PRS, and it has a great aftermarket due to a Remington 700 footprint and prefit barrels being available.
Good point for sure. Forgot that one. I still haven’t shot one but they are getting great reviews. I’d probably go that way.
As in solus bravo ? Which looks like might have MDT chassis or solus competition platform in 6cr ? Love the answers so far thank you!
