Colorado Deer

I have 16 points as a non resident. Thinking about using them this year. Anyone else planing on burning they’re points?

I have a “10% strategy” I came up with for drawing hunt tags. I apply in every unit and every state for whatever unit gives me 10% odds. Sometimes I draw a decent tag on year 1 that only had 10% draw odds.

Then I just apply in enough states that statistically I’ll end up with the number of tags I want to hunt.

Jim, I see your strategy. As you know (decent) tags seem to be getting harder to draw now-in-days. Especially as a non-resident to 49 other states
We are definitely seeing a shift. Such as Colorado going to 50% random starting 2028.

I’ll try to plan a few hunts that I know I’ll draw a tag for, then strategize / for different states; that allow return tags. So if I draw a higher desirable tag in a different state, I can free up that hunting time.

Yea where I live in Idaho has been kinda ruined for elk hunting cause of out of state hunters not gonna lie and Idaho is changing that for out of state residents, making the hunting better for residents which is good for me but not for the rest of you guys out of state, don’t know what hunting is going to look like for elk at least in the coming years for Idaho

Brian, I was just going to reply with info about the 2028 changes here in Colorado. Those with lots of points are thinking the same thing you are.

Yeah it will be interesting to see… maybe on one hand with Colorado some units will go down in points from all the guys burning them?

I’m probably wrong. 2028 those point tags are basically cut in 1/2.
