Custom 6.5 PRC help screenshot is description

Looking to build 6.5 PRC. My thoughts in screen shot comment.

Hello,

I set out to build the same setup! I’ve tweaked as I went along but I’d be curious who you’ve talked with thus far.

Stuteville precision - Jim recommended Wade for his expertise and quality Bartlein barrels. He said he’s best of the best. He really only does impact actions so that’s where it got tricky for me because I still needed to add a trigger/rail which got to be on the higher side for what I was wanting to pay for a nice hunting setup. Still an option though.

Preece precision - Garret was also mentioned and he seems to be an expert with Proof barrels and tikka actions. He does the chambering. At one point Garret did say he could take a barrel (maybe from Stuteville) but when I talked to Wade, he recommended to stick with one gunsmith. He’s also reasonably priced and I’m leaning towards this setup at the moment (with a backlight chassis).

Blue mountain precision - another place mentioned but they do Benchmark barrels with Zermatt/other custom actions.

Oregon mountain rifles - they have lots of tikka customizations but I’m not sure if they’d take a Bartlein barrel.

Hopefully this gives you a couple things to consider.

Jon

I second Jon’s response. Preece is well known for doing great chambering work.

I also think you have the perfect setup picked here. The tikka action in a Backlight chassis with a Bartlein barrel is absolute perfection.

I’d probably go 22” or 24” ? What do you think?

Hi Jim,

I’m wanting to run a suppressor and was hoping to go as short as possible (20in barrel) without giving up performance on occasional elk (farthest 500 yards). Do you think I need to go 22in or you think I’m ok at 20?

Do you know anyone that takes Bartleins with a tikka action? I think Preece would do it but not sure if that’s the right move if he prefers Proof.

Thanks

Jon

On the rifle accuracy database - Rifle Accuracy Database – Backfire you can see a 6.5 prc load from a Preece chambering.

I would go at least 22” if you want longer range elk.

I was thinking a 24” barrel. Most likely will be putting a RXD 30 Ti suppressor on it. What are your thoughts?

Jim. I am thinking about doing a 22” barrel with the rxd 30 to suppressor.

With a 6.5 prc tikka T3x action…would I want the backlight chassis in long or short ? Does it matter which tikka action I get?

Thankyou
