Cut the Barrel? Or Flute it?

Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out the most cost-effective versus performance gaining way of cutting weight off of my build. I currently have a 22-in Tikka t3x Barrel, just the factory Sporter that I’m considering chopping down to 20 in or having it fluted. What would you guys recommend? Chambered in 22 CreedMoor.

What way would cut the most weight and give the best performance?

Dang, that’s already a very light rifle. Cutting the barrel shorter will certainly help but 2” of a skinny barrel may not be much weight really.

A Backstop Recoil pad is 1oz lighter than the factory one if you really want to go crazy.

Thank you! I am definitely planning on putting a backstop on it for sure. How much weight do you think I can trim off of it if I get the barrel? Fluted and I’m planning on keeping the factory stock for now that eventually I’m going to be putting an A&g composite carbon fiber stock on it

Shorter barrel = slower fps.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch the barrel. I had a very good shooting rifle that I wanted threaded and that small thing destroyed the barrel’s accuracy. There a lot of ways to cut weight without touching the barrel.

Yeah, if it shoots well now I wouldn’t touch the barrel.
