I have a new Fierce Carbon Rogue .308 that I am trying with several different ammo to find out what it likes the best. I have shot the Barnes 150 grain TSX bullet and thinking about trying the Barnes TTSX bullet. I know T stands for tipped, but other than that, what is the difference in these 2 bullets? I have tried to find comparisons on line and on You Tube, but have not found anything that is real clear on the difference or if one performs better than the other. Please advise.
I don’t have any direct data on terminal ballistics, but the tip gives the bullet slightly better aerodynamics and consequently higher ballistics coefficient. In .308 the 150 grain TSX has a BC of .369 whereas the TTSX of the same weight has a BC of .420. According to Barnes, the tip is supposed to help initiate expansion as well.
Mark, Thanks so much for the info. That makes sense. I just haven’t been able to find any concrete information on the difference.
Thanks again,
Mark
Hi Mark,
How do do you find that fierce Rogue in .308
I decided to go sako s20 for my 300wm after some of the guys advices
But Im in need of a smaller caliber for my wife, .308
I m thinking between the rogue and the sako 90 adventure
Do you love yours ?
Cheers
Tony, I love my Fierce Rogue in .308. I got it with an 18" barrel since I hunt with a suppressor and do not want a long barrel to carry around in the woods. It is shooting sub 1/2" groups and the trigger is the best one I have ever had, other than the one on my Fierce Carbon Rival 7 PRC. I have them both set right at 2 lbs and they are so sweet. I am not very familiar with the Sako rifles, but I hear they are good guns. I have had no issues with either one of my Fierce rifles. Hope this helps.
Mark
TTSX has the better bc; deeper hollowpoint cavity, and tends to expand more than the TSX. TSX drives in pretty deep; TTSX opens up quicker due to the polymer tip being forced back into the hollow cavity.
TTSX is great on whitetail deer, I use the 130 TTSX behind 46-48 grains of TAC or Varget or IMR 3031. Has been accurate as a round with longest shot to date at 330 on the shoulder with the bullet passing through the deer.
Good luck
