Disappointed in Proof Carbon Barrel Weight

I am hoping someone can correct me and I am just flat out wrong  I am looking at upgrading to a proof carbon barrel for my 22 CM. I currently have a 22" barrel that weighs 28.6 oz. The lightest 22" proof carbon barrel for 224 caliber (Item 147948) is 2lbs 9oz OR 41 oz. So why would I want to spend $1200 on a barrel that is going to end up weighing 12.4 oz more than what I already have?

Your math is wrong - on the website it actually 45oz.

Hi Ben, I think we were both wrong  It looks like (Item 147948) is 2lbs 9oz OR 41 oz That is the lightest 22" 224 carbon barrel I could find. So why would one spend $1200 to get a barrel that weighs 12.4 OZ more. If the idea behind carbon barrels is they’re supposed to be lighter. Seems like a bold face lie to me? Please, someone correct me if I am wrong. But the math does not seem to add up to “the industry” claims here?

Crabon wrapped barrel. They are lighter than the steel. My Cure (Bergara) - which is lighter than the Proof - heats up pretty fast, but the proof barrels don’t, by reputation at least. They have to have more steel to make that happen.
Me personally, I would trade my Bergara barrel for a Proof barrel in a heart beat.

I think most people buy Proof barrels not because of trying to save weight but because of their reputation for excellent performance both in terms of accuracy as well as managing heating/cooling.
